Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0316 means that a cylinder misfire was detected within the first 1000 revolutions of the engine crankshaft after engine startup. This code will always be stored at the same time with freeze frame data and a fault code for the offending cylinder.
This is where DTC P0305 comes in.
This code means that cylinder #5 is the cylinder that is causing the misfire.
Coils and plugs are only two of the many possible reasons for a cylinder misfire.
The possible reasons for both of these codes are:
> Damaged crankshaft position sensor
> Ignition system (Primary or Secondary)
> Faulty fuel injector or fuel injector control circuit
> Poor fuel quality (will usually cause MULTIPLE cylinder misfire codes)
> Base engine faults (burned valves, low compression, damaged lifters or cam, blown head gasket, etc.)
> Damaged/malfunctioning PCM

NOTE: The LEAST LIKELY cause is the PCM. A damaged Crankshaft Position Sensor will usually cause problems on ALL cylinders, not a single cylinder, however it IS possible if the sensing ring is damaged.

Cylinder # 3 has a misfire...#1) Defective coil on plug or the spark plug itself...#2) Contaminated fuel injector...See drawings below...The coil pack is the smaller of the two and sits to the rear of engine it is the most probable cause...Although the spark plug or the ignition wire (connection between plug and coil pack) could be at fault...so, before you invest in a new coil pack...Remove from both ends the wire from #3 and switch it with #2...if the fault code changes to p0302 that wire is bad...next Install a new set of plugs....Fault still present? replace the coil pack.....Unless recently changed new plugs and wires are a plus even if fault remains...saailer

Mercury grand marquis 2001 change spark plugs and coil but misfire code po305 still check light still on plus hestiating when accerlating on gas pedal

If you changed an individual ignition coil based on
a PO305 & that didn't resolve the issue, then either
the code didn't help & you have a different coil bad or
several

Put back the old coil on #5 & check codes again & walk
a new coil until you get the bad one or more

If you have a shop put a scan tool on it-- use Mode #06
to check misfire counts

Sometimes that doesn't get a really hit & miss coil & your
back to walking all those coils not replaced in the last couple
years

Po316, po 300, po301, po305 2004 ford freestar

These codes are making me lean towards the ignition coil pack.My stepson's 2001 Sable 3.0 v6 had one cylinder misfiring(5-code P0305),which shares a coil with cylinder 1(code P0301).I diagnosed it by trading wire 1 and 5 at the coil, and the code changed to P0301.You have codes for the two cylinders on the same coil,so this is most likely it.(these codes would also trigger P0300(Multiple Misfires Detected) and P0316(Misfire Detected First 1000 Revs)).

2004 ford escape with codes po316 and po 305

PO305 Miss nr 5 cyl. PO316 Miss in first 1000 revelutions after start. Check Nr 5 cylinder plug, plug lead or coil over plug or nr 5 coil. Not sure what system that has. I suggest replace plug regardless but look at plug for track marks down side of plug & worn electrode etc... if all ok there check nr 5 injector.

What's your problem? my 2004 mercury monterey has eight codes ,po301,poo53,po106,po316,po300,po304,po305,and po306

PO 300 is multiple misfires detected
PO 301, 304, 305, 306 are misfires in cylinders 1,4,5,&6
PO 053 is HO2S Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heater Resistance
PO 106 is MAP/BARO CKT Range / Perf
PO 316 is Misfire detected 1st 1000 Revs.

On a misfire, I usually push towards the spark plugs, plug wires, and coil packs / distributor coil.
You have PO 106 and PO 053 that need to be inquired about at nearest AutoZone.
They can give you an idea as to what is the problem on these.

Did a MAP sensor **** out and cause all the misfires ?
Did a misfire cause the MAP sensor error?
You see what I'm saying ?...Something caused all the misfires...thinking MAP...but not that familiar with the function of the MAP.

Hope this helps...

I RECENTLY THINK I HAD PUT SOME BAD GAS IN MY 2001 LINCOLN LS AND IT STARTED TO MISFIRE SO I DROVE ALL THE GAS OUT REFILLED IT WITH SUPREME AND GAS TREATMENT AND STILL WAS HAVING THE PROBLEM WHEN I REACHED...

Without seeing the car would say to do these things. Check for vacuum leaks on hoses, see that the mass air sensors is hooked up properly. Look for exhaust leaks, there could be air **** in causing the oxygen sensor be thrown off. Look at the oxygen sensors to make sure they're not damaged. Next check the ignition system. If the mis is constant disconnect one sparkplug at a time until you find which cylinder is missing. Switch coil packs to another cylinder to verify this. If the ignition seems OK you might have a bad sensor. Mass air or throttle position sensor. Good luck.

Misfires and codes PO316, PO306, & PO305 popped up on the diagnostics check. What needs to be fixed based on that?

You will need to replace no 5 and no 6 coil pack and spark plugs. P0316 is random missfire that computer could not detect the cylinder that was causing it,just knew one was missfiring.
Coil packs are common concern on these vehicles. Can get oil leak into the coil pack wells and may also even get moisture into them.
If yours is a 3.9L it may be involved in owner satisfaction program 07M07 or 07N09 in which they will cover them under the program for up to 10yrs or 100000 miles which ever comes first.

1998 Monte Carlo 3.1 liter stalled out making horrible noise only code coming up is PO305 which is #5 cylinder misfire, what could be the cause wires and coil have spark number 5

dont know what the noise is with out more discripttion but if you have spark and the plug is good it might be a bad injector or the intake gaskets may be leaking and leting the anti freeze leak in common for 3.1 is it hard to start and when you say stalled is that driving or parked or starting the car and it dies back out?
