1996 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID

Since the Caravan is front wheel drive, there would be no transmission lines running to the rear of the vehicle. This reduces the possibilities to either a fuel leak, or a brake line. If you smell the fluid you should be able to tell immediately if it were gasoline. This would be a dangerous thing. Fuel leaks must be isolated and repaired quickly to avoid risk of fire. If it were brake fluid, and the leak were stead, you should, if you inspect the brake master cylinder reservoir, a lower level of fluid than normal, possibly even a total loss of fluid in the rear chamber. If so, then the brake line to the rear has probably ruptured from age/corrosion. It must be repaired or replaced.

check your rear main seal. Also try changing your trans fluid, trans filter, and your transmission pan seal. I recommend you put lucas transmission oil in it and a quart of the Lucas Stop Slip and leak sealer

so i just changed the seal at the front pump and torque converter because trans fluid was leaking from the bell housing took her for a test drive and still leaking help anyoine it is a 1996 grand caravan 3.8

Most automatic transmissions will have a cooler that is in the radiator. Some will also have an external cooler (really common on vehicles with a towing package). It is really common for the cooler hoses to leak on the caravans. Make sure you are using ATF+4 for trans fluid. No other transmission fluid should be used in a chrysler!

More then likely it's going to be the front pump seal to your transmission.

The transmission fluid should be flushed out every 60,000miles. In your owners manual there will be a service interval section that will tell you how often the fluid should be changed.

If it's red, it's transmission fluid. Coolant would be green. Check the fluid level, don't let it get low, Chrysler minivans are prone to transmission troubles, and low fluid levels over time will ruin a a transmission. And be sure not to overfill, it's just as bad for the trans. Have the leak checked out and repaired, good luck
