We are looking to buy the same 2005 Dodge Neon 2.0 SXT that has 150,000 miles and it does the same thing - vibrates at acceleration and lacks power. We've been told by the buyer that a mechanic said the "Harmonic "Balancer" needs to be replaced. We are hoping to be able to bring the car to a mechanic tomorrow to find out what it is and if it is a major or minor repair (which will determine if we purchase the car or not!).
Have the torque convertor checked out for they will vibrate when the internal fins comes loose in it

I have the same issue, mine just turned 90,000. Mine also sounds as though there is some kind of exhaust leak to me, it is really loud. It sounds as though it is coming from maybe a doughnut style gasket between the manifold and exhaust pipe. I just haven't had time to jack up and check it out. I will be following your dilemma.
