2005 Toyota Sienna main rear brake lights are out but center rear works fine as well as all other lights. Checked fuses and bulbs and they are fine. Is it the brake pedal switch? Some other post said it could be the turn signal/headlight switch assembly.

This fuse is no.2 in the fuse box above the pedals and it should be a 15 amp.If you plugged a trailer in then check those electrics or check your brake light switch on the brake pedal.

Where is the fuse box to check the fuses on a 1989 GMC Safari van

1. Check the bulbs to see if they are out. If out, replace.
2. check the bulbs for any water damage. If bulbs go out often, this might be the problem (the water, that is). You can always use Bulb Grease to help keep the socket and such clean and protected.
3. If the bulbs are good and the connection is good, then check the fuses. I couldn't figure out which one was for the brakes, but check them all. A burnt out fuse is pretty clear, usually. The metal part is broken/burned. You can also use a fuse indicator to see if the fuse is good.
4. If the fuses are good or you replaced the fuses and you still have the problem...there is a switch at the brake peddle under the dashboard. I know this is true for Golf 2000 with manual transmission. I don't know about automatics. Unscrew the dashboard (it took three 3 screws and an odd screw driver). Crawl under and you will see something mounted above the petal that either has 2 or 4 wires attached to it. That's the switch. Give the switch a good 90degree turn to the LEFT and it should be good to go.

Note: If you take the switch out of the mounting, the brake lights should be ON. If the lights do not turn on, then it might be the electrical system and only my mechanic can help you with that. He's the one who pointed me to the switch. So if you are in LA and need a good Volkswagen mechanic, let me know.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2004 Landrover Freelander stop/reverse light fuse keeps blowing

I had a persistent problem of hill light warning and TCS warning lights coming on for no apparent reason. There is a wire connection between the stop light switch and the control unit to let the system know when brakes are being applied. Changing the stop light switch cured it. The replaced switch was certainly sticking and the new one was of a different design. Replaced it myself as switch comes with a wiring loom. Need to get on your back under the steering wheel! Not very expensive. My car 2001 TD4

That is NORMAL -- just found out myself. ONLY- the center light and the lower (bumper) lights are your brake lights. The main lights are ONLY used for running lights.... Got to luv it!

I have a 2002 Land Rover Freelander that is stuck in Park. The stop light switch has been replaced with an autozone part, but it still does not work. The break lights are also not working.

This might help you. Otherwise, just find a mechanic you trust and have him or her check the brake light bulbs. It could also be fuse problems. Check the diagram for your lights or check your manual. http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/5166/land-rover/freelander/freelander-transmission-problems

54 reg freelander brake lights not working centre light works chaned bulbs and checked fuse

quite a few people have this problem ,it would appear that the problem lies in the connection plug where the lights wiring connects to the chassis loom.normally a quick clean and grease of the connections works wonders

How do i open the back door of the 2004 landrover freelander from

There is no way but to short the wires at the tail door switch outside which should only be done if you have a circuit diagram and experience on the vehicles electrical systems or you could damage components beyond repair.Make sure the fuse is not blown.
