The seat bottom is held in with 2 release buttons located left and right of the center of the seat. (see photo) push with a screw driver and lift, then pull the seat bottom forward and remove.

The rear seat back is help in place by 2 self tapping bolts on the lower left and right of the seat back near the floor, if I remember correctly you'll need a 10mm socket. Remove the 2 bolt and lift up to remove the seat back. When re installing the seat back do not over tighten the bolts they have a tendency to strip.

Convertible top motor runs for a few seconds and quits. top goes uo about 6 inches but settles back when motor quits. how can i check to see if motor is still good or if needs replacing?

the motor just pumps hydraulic fluid into the lift pistons. If you are low on fluid, the motor can't create enough pressure to run the pistons. Check the fluid level.

Convertible Top Wont move but motor sounds.

If what you are trying does not fix your problem and the motor runs, then crack the line loose at each top cylinder, the cylinder is equipped with a check valve inside it that may be stuck, releive pressure and try again to operate, if possible check pressure at the pump.

Convertible top is acting sluggish and unresponsive.

You are probably low on fluid.
Behind the rear seat is your motor/pump/reservoir combination.
With the top down, fill the reservoir to overflowing with ATF.
Cycle the system a few times and repeat.
Do this till the reservoir will take no more fluid.
Check the lines and cylinders for leaks. The fluid must be going somewhere.
If you replace any lines or cylinders, always do them in pairs.

Where is the top motor on the convertible? mustang 2001

My 2001 mustang had the same problem. The fluid is low in the pump. The pump is located behind the rear seatback. Easy to get to. Google removal if you cant figure it out. Once you get to the pump, there is a rubber plug in the end of the pump. Remove the pump from its rubber mounts and stand it on end. remove the plug and fill it with Mercon transmission fluid. Replace the plug and the pump and then run the top several times to get the air out and your done. There is probobly some slight seepage on one of the pistons that raise and lower the top, but I didnt see any leaks on mine and will deal with that later if the problem comes back. Good Luck
