Hello I have a 2004 VW passat 1.8T Every few days it sputters alot. When the sputtering happens it has no power when accelerating and soundlike is wants to die. If i restart the car it sometimes fixes the problem. other times i juat have to gradualy get up to speed and it goes away. Any suggestions?

Yes indeed... (suggestions)

Get your CODES read... Preferably at an EXHAUST
shop... They (in my opinion) are much less likely
to try and sell you those OXYGEN SENSORS you
will be "offered" at AUTOZONE... (useless).

OXYGENS SENSORS seldom make the news...
like thermometers in FLU-season: they merely
report the news...

A BLOCKED exhaust system will perform exactly
as you have described...!!

Check out all the prices of all the PARTS you can
throw away MONEY trying to surround the trouble
a CATALYTIC converter/muffler COST will pale by
comparison... (go to rockauto.com or AMAZON).

In my humble opinion

SOURCE: Car sputters when you accelerate

is the engine lite on? if a misfire shows, and the plugs are new, could be coil or wires. how does it idle? maybe air leak between mass air flow sensor and throttlebody.

SOURCE: sputtering when accelerating

If it idles ok and only "sputters" under load it could be either an ignition or fuel problem. How long has it been since the fuel filter was changed? How about spark plugs and wires? Without the proper diagnostic equipment and the vehicle in front of me, these are the easiest things for the DIYer to tackle with the fuel filter being the cheapest option.

Car sputters while driving and then accelerator goes all the way to the floor without giving it any gas. I stop completly then the car can move with the accelerator again for a few miles

sounds like a throttle position sensor or mass airflow sensor. Have the codes checked. But it could possibly be a small cracked vacuum hose. I had this happen once - with customer's hood open, we were listening to an engine that was "throbbing" and "sputtering". We happened to spot a bad vacuum line, and when I blocked the crack in the line, the sputtering stopped and the engine perked right up. Replacing the bad vacuum hose solved the problem.

2004 grand cherokee 4.0l one day it will run fine the next day it runs rough rich and when i step on the gas the engine cuts out and spits and sputters

When the "spits and sputters" happen are you in low rpm? Can you "by-pass" the sputtering by accelerating? Has your gas mileage suffered?
