ISUZU
1986-1995 Amigo, P'up, Rodeo, Trooper 2.3L; 2.6L
Many 1986-1995 Isuzu trucks with the 2.3L and 2.6L engine develop a low
battery charge condition caused by weak alternator output. The problem
is not necessarily a bad alternator; it is often been found to be the
result of damage to the alternator wiring harness. The harness passes
through a metal retainer near the back of the alternator, and over time,
the retainer can chafe through the harness, grounding it out. Before replacing
the alternator, inspect the harness and repair or replace it if required.
Also check all connectors and cables for signs of corrosion. High-resistance
connections can easily prevent the alternator from maintaining a full
charge in the battery.
How are we determining the alternator is charging correctly? The charge rate at the battery posts should be between 13.6 to 14.2 v If lower than 13.2v the alternater is charging too heavy and if above 14.2v the alternater is charging low. Keep in mind the higher the voltage the lower the amperage. With an amp meter hooked up between the negative post and the cable you can chk the amps being charged. a voltmeter between the positive post and its cable can show you any current draw present with everything turned off, make sure doors are close and key is out of ignition. Good Luck

You have fault codes stored in your vehicles computer. Any local mechanic with a diagnostic machine can retrieve these codes that will diagnose your electrical component issue. To retrieve codes - $50 to $75.
Get a Beck Arnley alternator. The auto-zone, Napa etc. alternators are a problem for Isuzu's. I worked at a dealership and a lot of them came in for this problem. If you still have the original have it rebuilt. Check yellow pages.
Passenger side of vehicle. Look under vehicle around the rear door area. Inline filter.
Buy the Haynes or Chiltons. Well worth it for the vehicle. Also hondaautomotiveparts(dot)com can get you decent prices on some items. Isuzu Rodeo and Honda Passport are the same car (made by Isuzu). It atleast has a good breakdown of parts with pictures.
