So my 1997 Ford G has a fairly low and a bit shaky idle when it is stopped. On top of that, when I turn on any vents (e.g. the heater or the a/c), the car and the idle starts to shake even harder (sometimes to a point of the car dying). Can anyone help me out in pinpointing the problem or a certain thing to look at to get it fixed. Thanks in advance.

SOURCE: Bad smell coming from heater/ smoke coming out vents

I had the same problem in my 98 Dodge Dakota! Replaced the heater core, problem solved. No more funky coolant smell and erie fog coming through my vents. I bought the heater core at rockauto.com online. Have purchased many items now from them. All factory parts so far at half the price of even AutoZone, even with the shipping. Also, you usually have to wait only a couple of days depending on the part and they have EVERYTHING.

SOURCE: 1997 Ford Contour with a rough idle while stopped

This is a common complaint on these cars. I own a 96 myself.
Assuming that you engine is fine and runs smoothly under normal operation, and just is rough "feeling" at idle while stopped; then I would suggest changing the motor mounts...the mounts may not be broken, but the rubber isolators get worn and soft, and transffer normal engine vibration into the chasis of the vehicle. Mine was doing the same after changing the mounts good as new again.
Please note...don't use cheap mounts, by the better grade/quality mounts.

The Idle Air Control (IAC) is not working.... This is a very common problem and very easy to fix. The IAC will run you about $50 (USD) and the only tools needed is a 8mm socket. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the 2 8mm hex screws, remove IAC. Reverse order to install.

Have a ford five hundred 2005 changed the thermostat and have air in the system how do i get it out ?

NOTE: The addition of Cooling System Stop Leak Pellets, darkens Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant from yellow to golden tan.
  1. Fill the degas bottle with the correct engine coolant mixture to the degas bottle seam line.
  1. Install the pressure relief cap.
  1. Remove the retaining clip and the fill tab on the top of the thermostat housing and fill through the thermostat housing until full.
  1. Install the fill tab and retaining clip.
  1. Select the maximum heater temperature and blower motor speed settings. Position the control to discharge air from the A/C vents in the instrument panel.
  1. Start the engine and allow it to idle until engine reaches normal operating temperature. While the engine is idling, feel for hot air from the A/C vents.
  1. CAUTION: If the air discharge remains cool and the engine coolant temperature gauge does not move or the low coolant light comes on, the engine coolant level is low in the engine and must be filled. Stop the engine, allow it to cool and fill the cooling system.Run the engine at 3,000 rpm for 10 minutes. Hot air should discharge from the A/C vents. The engine coolant temperature gauge should maintain a stabilized reading in the middle of the normal range, and the upper radiator hose should feel hot to the touch.
    • Shut the engine off and allow it to cool.
    • Check the engine for coolant leaks.
    • Check the engine coolant level in the degas bottle and fill to the seam line.

I have 97 expedition, running good except for coming to an Idle, gets shaky like its out of fuel, has died on me several times coming to a stop. Other than that it runs great accelerats great ?

Check the fuel filter if it needs cleaning. Inspect the vacuum hoses and wiring for loose ones or worn out ones.

This may also be caused by dirty idle air control valve or a faulty one.

1999 ford expedition I am getting almost no heat in front or back. I have flushed out heatercore. I have change thermostat. When the engine is at 2.5 to 3,000 RPMs I get heat. No heat when it is idling....

Try the heater controles. There is a possibilaty with this expedition that the heater doors are not opening properly. When motor is at low RPM the vacum the motor pulls is low to.This vacum is what controls the doors and vent. You can pull vacum lines on and off ONE at a time and listen for the doors to open. There is also a good possibilaty the vent door contol switch at the dash could be bad.You would need a vacum gauge to test it though.

Hi my nissan maxima 1997 is having some problems like idle is very low when the engine is warm! then while driving it was ok but when you stop at the intersection or traffic lights the "IDLE drops...

Sounds like your idle air control valve, after time they get dirty and cause low and/or rough idle. They also cause vehicle to just die when idling or taking off from a stop sign. Unforntunately they cannot just be cleaned, as this ruins the finish inside of the unit. Check your local parts store, they can be pretty expensive units to purchase; however, they are usually fairly simple to install, good luck! :)

2000 ford taurs a/c dont work it blows cold when i power up the compressor.its running 45 lbs on my gage on the low side.

Hi...
Perform the following basic Checks and Information
1. Check Drive Belts,If belt is intact proceed to the next step.
2. Check for Compressor Clutch Engagement - Turn the air conditioner to the "on" position and set controls to the coldest setting. Start the engine and allow to idle. Then open the hood and inspect the clutch at the front of the compressor, is it turning? "Engaged" if so, the system has enough refrigerant to activate. If the system is low on refrigerant it will not work properly. In this case an air conditioner recharge kit is needed to recharge the system. If the compressor clutch is not turning proceed to next step.
3. Inspect for Refrigerant Leaks
4. Check under dash panel and under hood power distribution center
5. Check Temperature Control Vents - The vents inside your car are controlled by a cable, electrical servo or vacuum servo. If the vent door is not functioning properly it will cause warm air from the heater to exit the vents. To check this start the car and allow the engine idle, next turn the blower motor speed on low, switch the temperature control from warm to cold while your ear is close to the vents. You should hear the door move inside the heater box as it swings from open to close. If not, inspect for a vacuum leak or a shorted motor in the servo, repair the leak or replace the servo motor.
Thanks
