Hi Wendy Lee,

It is possible that the window switch is going bad, but it is also possible that the window motor is going bad. Either way, you would have to remove the door panel to do any kind of testing. One very easy thing that you can do is contact your local dealership or search online for any recalls on that particular problem for your make and model. I do know that Nissan had a recall for this particular problem on the 2001 Xterras. Perhaps your make is included. If not, then trying a different window switch (new or used) will narrow the possibilities. If a different switch doesn't fix it, you can all but bet it's the motor. Compare prices from parts stores and junkyards. I hope this helps in some way.

Changing the window motor driver side

Hello,

To change the window motor driver side, follow the steps below:
  1. remove 1 visible bolt left side of arm rest
  2. Pop out window switch/door lock/ mirror adjustment control panel with a screwdriver
  3. Use panel remover or just pull on interior panel to remove must slide it off of door handle
  4. Slide control switch panel down through hole you popped it out of
  5. Pull vapor barrier loose bottom right side to expose coiled spring and window motor
  6. Tape window in the up position using masking or package tape
  7. Mark a straight line across coil spring to make sure you can realign it when reinstall
  8. Use tool j-38864 connect it near outer part of coil sprint where it hooks to retainer or in a pinch use pointed vice grips at same location ensuring they are firmly locked on spring ( be very careful, I'm not responsible for any injury if you are not)
  9. Force spring clockwise to disengage it from it's retainer point
  10. Pull spring slightly outward just enough to clear the retainer point and slowly let it uncoil counterclockwise and let it sit there
  11. Disconnect wire connector from right end of window motor
  12. Use your hands and push 3 plastic retainer points outward as you lift up on window motor to disengage from retainers careful not to break the plastic retainers comes out pretty easy
  13. Install new motor into the plastic retainers, make sure filly seated ( lining up plastic Guides into holes in motor (3 points)
  14. Reconnect wire connector to new motor
  15. Use J38864 or vice grips to recoil spring, resit it to retainer point as before you have to be very careful in order not to hurt yourself
  16. Remove tape from window and test up/down switch ( key must be on)
  17. Reseal vapor barrier in place as it was prior to starting
  18. Slide switch control back up through hole in door panel from where it mounts
  19. Slide door over door handle
  20. Align retaining clips to holes and push them home with gentle raps of your hand start at the top and work downward on panel
  21. Replace both bolts in arm rest
  22. Pop window/door lock control panel back in place
That is how to change the window motor of the drivers side of a 2000 pontiac montana.

Take care and good luck

Is there any certain way to remove the driver's door panel

There's a few tools you'll need:
panel removal tool $7-$10 (forked)
if you have hand crank windows you'll also need a window crank removal tool
screw drivers - philips and small straight
Note pad and pen or pencil
zip lock plastic bag
May need:
socket set
allen and torx drivers

Use the note pad to make notes where everything goes.
Open the door all the way.
Use the straight screw driver to pop any small plastic covers off.
remove any screws that are holding the panel or arm rests or anything else attached to the door (this is where the socket, allen or torx drivers may come in handy)
put all the small part in the plastic bag (use more than one to keep things straight, if you need to.)
starting at the bottom back corner start gently pulling the panel, you'll soon find spots where it's sticking, here you'll find plastic panel attachment pins. Using your panel removal tool, slide it under the panel and find the panel pins, slide the tool around the pins and pry them loose, You may find an extra screw you missed or a few panel pin toward the center, remove as before.
The panel should now be hanging by where it clips over the window edge (if working indoors, putting the window down ahead of time helps here) gentle lift and pull the panel up and off where it's hanging.
All that's left is disconnecting any wires, there will be clips molded into the sides to hold them in place, gently lift the clip and disconnect them.
Your panel should be loose.
Reverse to reinstall.

1999 Lincoln towncar drivers side window won't work. Makes a noise when you try. Inside the door on the far right side is a black box, when pressed the window works? What is the black box and any...

The box you're referring to is the "driver's side door control module" if it operates when you press on it you might just have a loose solder connection on the pins. Obviously, you've already removed the inner door panel, so...
1. Unhook neg batt cable
2. Loosen the top screw
3. Press the bottom retaining clips on both sides in and pull back, or just pull back, the screw holds it in and the slots keep the thing steady.
4. Refrain from smashing everything and burning the car to the ground
5. Lightly unclip the three clasps holding the control module board in its housing
6. Visually check for damage, discolouration, loose or broken connectors.
7. Repeat step 4 if you don't find anything
8. Multimeter check or
9. Online parts search
10. Forget step 4.?

My ac on mt 2000 xterra works when it wants to but

you have a electrical problem either in the control panel or the a/c compressor clutch connector
tray by moving the plug on the side of the compressor clutch. if that engage and disengage the clutch replace the connector "pig trail".
but if that don't change wait on till the a/c is not working unplug the a/c compressor and cornet a test light on the loose cable
if you don't get any power replase your climate control module.

Drivers side electric window does not work

Remove the door panel and disconnect the motor from the window, but leave it plugged in. See if the motor works. If it does you should grease the tracks on the window. If the motor does not work then you should replace the motor. The motor will probably get hot when you try working it.
