Question about Nissan Altima

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE About a week ago the check engine light came on, it started running rough, especially at idle. Computer diagnostic results showed missfire in cylinder 6. I replaced the spark plugs (the coil boots appeared fine). Check engine light still on and diagnostic still shows cylinder 6 missfire. I read another post on this website where they had the same error code and the expert advised to check the catalytic converter. Could a bad converter cause a cylinder 6 missfire code on the computer? Should I try replacing the coil pack on the no. 6 cylinder first to see if that works?

I would definately replace the coil. pretty certain that will solve your problem. do not drive with misfire or that can cause fruther damage such as catalyst failing, which is prety expensive.

My 96 nissan altima dies at idle

Could be a dirty throttle body, vac leak, or a defective idle air control valve. The computer adjusts idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the throttle body via the control valve.

Change your thermostat,The car is probaly over heating. You keep on driveing it when it does that. You will do serious damage to your engine. Is the check engine light on? Allso any other warniing light. While the car is in operation. Is there guages in the car? It is definatly a timeing problem but 1st check you pluged all wireing back in especially cam sensor & VVT solinoid if fitted. You may just need to reset the code & see if prob remains. I had a honda engine light come on after haveing VVT solinoid out & just had to reset comp & it was fine. If all looks good there you will need to recheck the cam timeing you could be a tooth out. 2001 Nissan Altima shuts off in hot weather

it is the cam position sensor...the telltale sign of the failure is that it happens when the vehicle is warm and has been driven for a while. Sensor is about 40 bucks at the auto parts store, make sure the replacement sensor is metal, not plastic.
The main symptoms of this sensor failing are rough starts, rough idling and not starting at all especially when warm.
