THE abs light is suppost to be on it tells you that the system is working . Now if the brake warning light or the MIL _service engine soon or check gauges light comes on then you have to deal with some kind of a problem . Be esspicaly aware of the cheack gauges light that means eighter the oil is low or the cooling system is haveing a problem . The MIl light tells you about sensors that some times comes on and goes out by it self after a number of starts but still should be cheacked with a code scanner for OBD 11 if it dose come on

  • Hi, I can help.
  • ABS is your Anti-lock Braking System. What it does is prevent you from locking your brakes up when you push on the brake pedal. It automatically fluctuates your braking to have more effective braking capability. In the old days you would "pump" your brakes. Now the pumping is automatic with the help of an ABS system.
  • So the ABS light is just like your Check Engine Light. It means somewhere in the ABS system an error has been detected. Most likely one of your ABS sensors but not guaranteed to be this.
  • You will need to get your on board computer scanned just like you would if there was a check engine light on. From the same plug as well. A code or codes will be read and then you will know exactly what needs to be done to fix the problem.
  • You can get this done at Auto Zone for free. I think there scanners have ABS capability as well.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

The ABS light should only come on briefly when the vehicle is started and then disappear. If the ABS light remains on or suddenly illuminates then there is a problem with the ABS system. It absolutely is not suppose to remain on.

Its the Auto Braking System.
This is the system that pulses your brake to reduce skidding when braking on gravel, ice, wet pavement...etc.
When this light comes on...more than likely it won't function correctly and your tires will lock up and skid.
Fixing the problem usually requires a brake job / brake replacement all the way around.

Hope this helps...

Sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere. You will need to remove the light and start tracing the wires.

How do I determine if an ABS sensor is bad on a 1995 chevy corsica

ABS sensor has nothing to do with the restriction of the brake oil supply. It merely tells the ECU whether the wheel is spinning or stopped at all when the car is moving.
Check:
- Pull up the ABS diagnostic error codes.
- Brake hose attached to the caliper for swollen or clogged.
- Check brake pipe from the skid control ECU to front wheel.
- Check the caliper assembly.

Warning light

Is this it? This means there is a fault with the ABS(Anti-lock Brake System) not sure if auto parts stores can read these codes.

96 corsica-ABS light stays on???

First thing i would try is looking at the fuses at the fuse box between the diver door and the dashboard. I was lucky enough mine was doing the same and it was just a blown fuse. Hope your problem is the same.

Chevy S18 P/U.....ABS Control Module wont power off ABS light stays on.

ABS light means that somehting in the ABS system is broken.

For instance, if a wheel speed sensor goes bad, the ABS light will light when the ignition is turned on and the car is started.

Have the vehicle scanned with an ABS Brake OBD-II Scanner
such as the Actron one which retails for about $100 or so plus shipping and handling.

This will give plain English explanations of what is wrong with the ABS system when you have an ABS light on in a vehicle for vehicles ranging from 1996 on up to about 2005 or so.
