My dome lights keep coming on randomly when the engine is off. Why is this happening and what is the fix?
The dimmer switch controls the dome light. The switches in the door jamb turn the light on when you open the door and off when you close it. Check the position of the dimmer switch on the dash and if it is really close to the brightest setting move it slightly dimmer. It may be touching the switch for dome light constant on as if you move it all the way to the left it locks the light on. Now for the door switches. There are two different types. One type is built into the door latch itself and you would have to replace the door latch to repair it this is very difficult. The other type is a small button in the front of the door jamb that cuts dome power when you close the door. Ckeck to see if these are cracked or crushed and not fully turning the light off. press them in several times to see if they are sticking or loose as they are only held on by one nut and if the nut comes loose the switch moves closer to the light on position. If loose tighten the nut. If you have to replace it remove the kick panel just behind it , remove the nut, and pull it out from behind the panel. reverse to install new switch and careful not to over tighten as these things will snap in half very easily. Hope that solves your dome light worries, good luck and thanks for visiting Fixya.com for all your solutions, Rich
