1989 jeep cherokee

Keemo68 is right, I had the same prblm and it was one of the relays. There are 4 relays located under the hood, passenger side, just above the wheel. They're quite cheap so buy one, then replace the first one, if still not ok put it back in place and try to replace the second one, til you find the defective one. Think I've paid $5-$6 in a wholesale electronics parts, they're quite standard.

There are only 2 reasons why a vehicle will not start. either you have no spark or you have no fuel. my question to is this? do you have spark? that means is the distributor's rotor making contact with the points in the cap?are the plug wires on tight?are they in the corect order?is the vehicle timed right?is the altenator good? are all ignition circuit 12 volt leads connect?the grounds connected?are the fuse/relays good?ok the posible solutions first make sure all fuses and relays are good. next make sure there are no loose or broken hot leads or grounds. next take the #1 plug out leave it connected to the wire and crank the engine.if there is no spark check to make sure that your coil wire is connected tight. next take the cap off and crank the engine the rotor should be spinning. (if it isn't that means either the gear or tang on the distributor is broken or it's a timing chain/belt/or gear is broken)if it is check to see if the timing is right by taking a 1/4 drive extension 6 inches long and turning your crank manually so that the #1 piston is top dead center(TDC) using the extension you should feel the top of the piston through the plug hole. now look at the rotor on the distributor. is it in the #1 firing position. if it is then you have a baed altenator. most people assume that even if they have a good battery that the vehicle will run,however the battery is for starting and running the accessoriies the altenator recharges the battery through the internal regulator and at the same time energizes the coil to provide the spark. now if all these things check out and you have spark, then it's a fuel issue. here are the things to check,first are the fuses/relays good? is the fuel filter clogged?does the pump have power?ok the solutions are as follows first making sure that all the grounds and positive cables are tight , open the junction box under the hood and find the fuel pump relay .with the key turned on you should hear the relay click and the pump run if it does not that means the relay is bad but just to be sure switch the relay with the a/c clutch relayturn the key and crank engine and it should start providing that the a/c clutch relay is good. if if the engine runs it was the relay if it still won't fire it is a bad fuel pump... hope this helps you solve the issue please rate this.....thanks

Possible 4 cylinder diesel engine (toyota or mitsubishi engine) match to convert or replace a 1989 cherokee jeep engine ( 6 cylinder engine) .......pls help
