Misfire code 1997 subaru outback check engine light, misfire code. When I take it to the mechanic, the car does not misfire. This is the 3rd time the light has come on in 3 weeks. I just had an over heating problem that cause the head to warp and spent $3000.00 on the car. It was after this work that the misfire code began. The car has had a complete tune up and the ignition coil replaced. It has 131,000 miles on it.

Many things can cause a misfire, but basic mechanical checks or tests can be made relatively inexpensively.Compression testing the cylinders with a compression gauge will verify the general condition of the engine's piston rings and valve sealing capabilities.A leakdown test is similar to a compression check except that a leak down test is directed more towards verifying specifically the valve's sealing capabilities.A valve can burn or a bad seal occur between valve and seat...causing a misfire.Valves and piston rings are mechanical in nature, but there are many other possible causes.Vacuum leak, ignition problems, fuel problems, sensor problem, etc etc.Good luck.

I suspect there may be damge to a n ignition part such as a plug or plug related part, if they are all original parts replace the pars for that cylinder and retest, do you feel the misfire?

Can you switch a rear diff from a 1997 subaru legacy wagen with a 2.2l inter changeable with a 1997 subaru legacy outback with a 2.5l ?

the biggest draw back that you will have to check first is the ratio of the diffs you want to change. If they are not the same but will fit then you will destroy the 3rd diff in the transmission from excessive use.

I have a 99 Subaru Legacy (Outback, 2.5L). The check engine light has come on and the codes indicate Cylinder 3 and Cylinder 4 misfires. The light came on about two weeks ago, and occasionally disapears...

hi the cylinder misfire codes are usually pretty specific, if you have replaced the above and it still hasnt fixed the problem try replacing the ignitor or the ecu as thats all it can be left causing the problem

How do I reset the ''check engine'' light on my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon?

the check engine light comes on if there is a problem with thecomputer system related to the emmision, when this is is repaired the light on can only be turned off with a monitor, code reader. some of these are quite inexpensive.over the web or at a part store.

2003 outback, check engine light is on, car feels like it's misfiring (sputtering) vehicle has 70k miles

any bad fuel in your area, low petrol recently,,may need to get dealer or good mechanic to pull fault codes from computer, not expensive to do,but repair depends on fault, need to look further, any car situation changes recently that may explain it,may be simple like spark plug lead

1997 subaru outback "check engine light" on for 6 months

try disconnecting the + positive terminal for a few minutes and see if it goes out most likely the 02 sensor needs replacing ...however low fluid levels may also contribute to this oil, brake fluid etc.
