The truck stalls right on start up unless I press the gas and keep the rpm's up. After shifting into gear with sufficient rpm's the truck will go and I can drive. The problem goes away after driving for a while but as soon as I shut down the engine, the problem returns.
Check and clean idle air control valve
check for vacuum leaks
suspect idle air control valve
Your tps sensor (throttle position sensor) is bad have tyhis replaced and this should fix the problem please rate this..
I took my 1999 Dodge RAM 1500 Club Cab in for service for a
similar issue. It would run okay for 3-5 minutes, then stall unless I revved
the engine to keep the idle higher. The second it idled lower it stalled. I
thought it might be my alternator.
Anyway, my mechanic found that the mass
airflow sensor was blocked, not allowing enough air to flow. They also found
that the throttle body was gummed up. They cleaned both and it runs fine now
Clean your iac valve
I have 1998 ram 1500 5.2. It shuts off when I take my foot of the gas pedal to stop. Replaced the TPC. ran fine for a week or so now doing the same thing can you help?
I had the same problem. The throttle body was gunkey. I took it to the shop and had a injector cleaning service where they cleaned the throttle body too. Runs like a champ now. 1998 Dodge Ram
Keemo68, why would you go after a TPS? A quick voltage sweap test with a DVOM would prove the tps is bad or not without requiring any money. How often do you see a tps be a few tenths off of a volt (not to common) vs IAC having high counts indicating vacume leak or incorrect air flow metering. Just some food for thought.
Throttle body positioning sensor needs to be changed it runs about 50 dollars and requires 2 screws to be removed
USE A SCAN TOOL THAT ALLOWS YOU TO RESET ADAPTIVE MEMORY,THIS WILL RESET THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE AS WELL AS FUEL/AIR RATIO AND CLEAR THE CODES. IF PROBLEM PERSISTS DO A SCAN FOR ANY NEW CODES
Well there is a couple problems that this could be but more than likely either your mafs or your tps is bad it sounds like its the tps hopefully it is its about two hundred dollars cheaper. they are both located on the throttle body and are easy to locate and change two screws each
I'm trying to replace a ignition rotorng its on my 2002 dodge ram 2500 van. i thought it should just come right off but its not. I replaced the distributer cap already. the van does not want to start on cool damp mornings and run rough when it rains. Am i correct in believing thats its in the ignition system?

will run at 1/3 throttle but dies below 1000 rpm
i have the same exact issue but it will go away after a few days and it only does it when i try and use my auto start
I am having the same problem with my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. It works well after driving it but then when I want to drive it again I have to resort to the same method.
I have the same problem with my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 and you the same method in order to get to drive.
Same problen on a 2003 Ram 1500 5.9 ltr.
same as above please help
did you try replaceing your iac sensor( intake air control)?
did you try replaceing your iac sensor(idle air control)? it should be located on the back of the throttle body.
When starting truck by remote it starts up then stalls out . Is there away to reset remote starter
When remote starting my truck it starts up but stalls is there away to reset remote
Prob a bad battery or poor connections at the battery. This is common for the jtec engine controller on many ram and jeep trucks. If the battery voltage to the controller drops to around 9-10 volts during cranking the controller looses its memory like unhooking the battery and the idle must relearn. Check the battery voltage while someone cranks the engine. Check at the post and the terminal wire to see if you have a poor connection or excessive voltage dropping between the post and main battery wire.
