1997 intrepid automatic transmission stuck in 2nd gear try to auto shift and it also stays in 2nd gear fluids are good but check engine light is on.

I also have a 97 3.5 intrepid and it is also stuck in 2nd gear which sounds just like this "limp mode" that has been discussed BUT I had both speed sensors changed n the side if the ****** but it's still doing the same thing, after having those put in is there any kind of resetting I need to do or something because if not those sensors didn't fix it! I am a widowed mother and I have no one to steer m in the right direction o oes anyone have any suggestions for me!

There are two speed sensors on the drivers side of this transmission. If your speedometer is working, replace the input sensor (closer to the front of the car). If the speedometer is not working, replace the output sensor(closer to the rear of the car). Or they cost less than 20 bucks, replace them both while you're underneath the car. They are dissimilar, so you cannot put the wrong one in the wrong place.

I recently had that issue with my 99 intrepid. I changed the input and output speed sensors. they cost 130. for both. and now it no longer gets stuck in 2 nd gear and drives more smooth.

Shifting automatic transmission is sluggish
you probably need to get your tranny fluid and filter changed,your filter is probably getting plugged up,get a tranny flush done at a garage or if you plan on doing it yourself,its a messy job.you need to get yourself one of those haynes repair manuals at an auto parts store or on ebay

98 Civic Auto Trans Slippage
you need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas
