The engine ID number is above the trans, printed on the block, below the head. There may be a emission decal under the hood showing a J1 or J2, if you call the Hyundai Parts dept with your VIN number they should be able to tell you.

Filling gearbox oil entry point on 1998 elantra j2 engeg

You will need a squeeze bottle or a funnel with a hose that will pass into the fill hole at the front face of the transmission. Car needs to be on level ground as not to under or overfill the oil level. Found a video on the fill plug location that should help you -

CAR DONT WANT TO START -ELANTRA J2 If i get it to start it runs fine without problems If you turn the ignition the starter runs good but it sounds like there is no fuel

Have you checked your fuel filter and fuel pump to be sure that they are functioning correctly? That is the first place you should start.

Ive replaced clutch and gear lever cables but it still is stiff going down throught the gears also had new gearbox on a j2 lantra

1. replace your gear oil.
2. is this an automatic or manual transmission engine? if manual, adjust your clutch release a little higher than usual to let your clutch engange earlier.

I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limated, the blower motor resistor wireing shorted out at the plug connection the control circuit to the resistor,I need to know the color code for the j1,j2,j3 termals on...

I've seen a few of these and the easiest fix is to replace both the blower motor speed controller/resistor and the wiring harness connector. I've tried fixing the connector but the repairs don't last because of the heat generated at the connector if everything isn't just right. You can purchase the connector, which comes with color coded pigtail wires attached, from the dealer and it's a fairly easy and permanent fix. Hope this helps and good luck!

My clutch does not want to engage, can't push the peddle down. What could be the problem. Hyundai Elantra J2 1998.

There are 2 possibilities.
  1. Since the clutch is hydraulic, some particle is jamming the rod-piston movement, hene the clutch lever is jammed(if using manual transmission)
  2. The springs which press the clutch plate to the engine(cam) are either brken off, meaning the clutch remains engaged all the time and since the hydraulics are not able to push them apart(release the clutch)-applicable for auto or manual trensmission.............. ..sodeep
