How many miles on the automobile???? A car NOT tuned regularly, will build up carbon, & dirt deposits on valves & pistons. When it breaks free, it travels into the Catalytic Converter, or the muffler, clogging either, will result in the symptoms you describe. Catalytic Converters, don't last much 150,000 miles on cars not meticulasly maintained

Code 42 on a 1991 3.1 rs. runs for a while then strts surging engine light is flashing then it stalls. restarts but barely runs surges and stall,

odb1 code 42 could be a bad ground,be it a body, chassis,or engine ground.the only other thing it could mean would be for a transmission sensor gone bad,but i would check the grounds first.

Engine surges stalls misfires power loss

You have very limited information listed. I don't know what year or model you have. Any way I would check fuel filter and perform a fuel pressure test to make sure your fuel pump is working correctly. Your vehicle may just be in need of a tune up. Does your check engine light come on? If so you need to have it plugged into a scanner or a code reader at the very least to find out why it is on.

I have a 2002 2.5 dura-tec engine cougar the other day it stalled on a hill and then immediately started again then the engine light flashed and now around 3500 rpm there is an engine knocking. the...

A flashing CEL (check engine light) means the computer is recognizing a "catastrophic failure" in your emissions system, warning you of the possibility of severe damage to your catalytic converter(s). The power loss could be a number of things, but the knocking, combined with the flashing light, means there is a severe problem with one (or more) cylinders. Get your vehicle towed to a shop for full diagnostics.

2004 ranger 3.0L starts but idles rough then stalls. Problems started with major loss of power with a hi pitched whistling and strong exhaust smells.

I suspect you have plugged catalytic converter - hence the whistle. If you hook up a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold vacuum port, it will be low, like around 10 when it shoul dbe 17 incehs of vacuum.
Was you check engine light flashing? If so, too much raw fuel getting in converter overheating it.

I bought my 2005 sebring a year ago and it is due for smog check.I put 3,000 miles on the 2.7 litre engine in the last year and it now has 36,000 miles.A couple months ago the malfunction yellow light came...

the 2.7l has a sludge problem. This could cause the stalling and loss of power. There's a few fixes, the new water pump (which is part of the problem) doesn't dump coolant into the oil pan. Easy way to check is to simply drop the oil pan.

Flashing oil light/ loss of power

Check your converter on your exhaust when it's running and see if the noise of rattling is coming from there. If it is you have a plugged converter,it's broken up and in piece's which will make noise and no power especially when calling for power.Be sure to let exhaust cool before repair is done.If the engine is making the noise like a knocking sound you should bring it to have it checked.Hope this help's.
