Sounds like a misfire pop the spark plug wires off one at a time while running. If you pull one off while running and nothing changes than you found the misfire; there may be more than one

SOURCE: 1992 pontiac grand am no acceleration, a rough idle (engine miss)

Does it have the 2.3l Quad 4 engine? If so replace the plastic piece that the coils go into, they go bad and leak spark to the cam towers and then you get a nice one or multiple cylinder misfire.

You may want to have the catalytic convertor checked out. it may need to be replaced. They can cause a car to run hotter and have poor acceleration to the point that the transmisssion won't shift. Also fuel filter could cause this but not usually. Hope this helps please leave comment.

I have a 00 pontiac grand prix gt and I dont know why my car hesitates when I am accelerating. Also I can feel and hear my engine bogging down like it wants to shut off esp when I am stopped or driving...

egr will only affect running at idle or slow speeds.under acceleration it can indicate poor tune-up components or even a partially plugged fuel filter not allowing enough fuel,or even a weak pump.a bad tps(throttle position sensor) can also act the same way, usually it will set a code, but not always.if it has a(maf) mass air flow sensor on this system it can cause the poor acceleration, again usually, but not always, will set a code in the computer.

My dodge dakota it idles below 1000 rpms and it sounds like its about to stall. and if i rev it up and then let off it will stall instantly. when i am driving from first gear to second it goes up to 4000...

It is actually hard to say without actually seeing the vehicle, but the target speed for your engine idle is around 750 RPM. The stalling after revving kind of depends on how high you are revving it and whether the engine is at operating temperature or not. This may be normal. Then again, it could be that the Idle Air Control (IAC) is not working properly.

The shifting from first to second at 4000 RPM sounds like a completely separate problem. This could be due to low transmission fluid level, sticking shift control solenoids, or possibly even a malfunctioning Vehicle Speed Sensor.

If the Check Engine light is on, have that checked first.

Hello, I have a 2000 grand prix gt shift into gear and drive fine

Sounds like the filter might be plugging up. I would have it serviced. Do you have a check engine light on? How long do you have to leave the engine off before it will start moving again?

My car dies when i put it in gear or when i come to a stop and a rough idle i changed the tps

Idle air control valve would be my next bet , the TPS usually just makes it rough on acceleration. Is it rough on acceleration(loss of power) ?

Transmission

Well the grandprix comes with a transmission that was poorly built. i've seen it before. i'd check your transmission fluid for qaulity. if its bad the car will do that. in automatics. the trans fluid acts like a clutch to help shift. check the vacuum line into the transmission shift silenoid. and there is a couple of sensors to check on it too. problem here is its really hard to give you a solution without seeing the car itself.
