1997 nissan maxima-no communication from the data link connector

My nissan maxima will not give any codes because the data link connector will not communicate. But all fuses seem to be ok.

.
The Link Error message is a bit too non-specific for my resource list. Is there any possibility you could get a free readout at an Autozone where you might get a code number or more info? I do have the '96 wiring diagrams and can give you the connections from the wires of the plug and you could check those for continuity, assuming that is what the code means. So let me know if you want those connections and I'll type them back to you right away.
Roland

checked all fuses and Relays that I could Identify.

What I would need to look at is the Wiring to and from the Link Connector and the ECM I am not sure what readings I should get with a Multi Meter.

Once again the reason I'm looking into this is the car feels as it has no power under acceleration

  • Anonymous Sep 15, 2008

ok here is how it works
the computer is hooked up to the wireing loom to the car and sends all the correct messages though to make it run

the data link goes from the link to the computer
if the link dont work it might be the wiring from there to the computer or dirty or wet inside terminals
also can be a fault with the computernot reading the data link
whats the problem with the car can any of us at fixya help?

05 nissan maxima no start replaced camshaft sensor bank 1&2 still gives PO345 code fuel pump works but still no start

You need to have a live data scanner hooked up to verify the powertrain control module (PCM) is actually receiving the signals from the CMP sensors you replaced, there is no more guessing here and no quick answers, it is a possibility the wiring harness and connectors to the sensors is defective, the wiring should always be replaced whenever the sensors are replaced on this engine ALWAYS, as they are frequently the problem and not the sensors themselves. But due to the difficulty of replacing the CMP's they both are replaced as a unit repair. Also it may be helpful for you to read the info at the link below. How do you reset the service engine light?

Locate the diagnostic connector. On the 1997 Nissan Maxima the connector is located in the OBD2 standardized location under the driver-side dash, slightly to the right of the steering column. With the ignition key in the "OFF" position, plug the connector of the scan tool into the diagnostic connector of the car. Turn the ignition key to the run position but do not start the engine unless instructed to by the scan tool.

Turn the scan tool on and select "Global OBD2" from the main menu. Select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes" from the first sub-menu, and then "Read Trouble Codes" from the second sub-menu. Write down all listed codes and their descriptions before erasing them. This will save time if you must perform additional diagnostics.

Press the back button on the scan tool until the second sub-menu is displayed, and select "Erase Codes" or "Clear Codes," depending on the manufacturer of the scan tool. A message will appear asking you to confirm your desire to erase the codes and other stored data. Select "Yes". The scan tool will alert you when the codes have been erased.

Test drive the vehicle to verify the repair is complete. The 1997 Nissan Maxima on-board computer will run a series of tests on the systems in the vehicle, including emission control devices. To complete these tests you must take two test drives that include a variety of driving conditions, with a 2-minute cool-down between each test drive. If the service engine soon light does not come back on during these two test drives, you have completed the repairs and the reset.

I need to troubleshoot dtc p0325 & p1320 on a 1997 Nissan Maxima GXE?

Hi,

The two codes seem to be related. The P0325 description is knock sensor circuit malfunction and the P1320 is ignition signal - circuit malfunction.

I'll summarize and then give links on more detailed articles I found. Basically the P0325 refers to the knock sensor and associated wiring. The P1320 refers to the ignition coil and wiring. Check the sensor, coil, and associated wiring.

I found some great articles:
P0325 - http://www.obd-codes.com/p0325
P1320 - http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1i/bl039i.htm

Good luck!
