I have a 2001 Dodge Durango. A couple of nights ago, the alarm went off (not sure if anybody tried to break in or not) - and then it turned off. The next morning, the car wouldn't start (battery appeared to be dead - new battery, only 3 weeks old). When it was jumped, the alarm went off, but wouldn't hold long enough to turn over (just used a little jump box - don't think it's powerful enough). Yesterday, our neighbor gave us a boost, and we took the car for a spin to (hopefully), keep it going. This morning, the car wouldn't start again. Got a jump from a friend this afternoon, and the alarm went off again (car also wouldn't turn over, assumed it was because the alarm was going off). After scouring the internet to see if anybody had any help - turns out, no, the only thing would could find was to push the valet override button (which we can't find in the car), also heard the batteries in the fob may need to be replaced? Any suggestions? We had the car in to Canadian Tire to have the battery replaced about 3 weeks ago and they didn't see anything wrong with the car, so we're assuming there's no issues with the alternator or the alternator belt...

I can try to help you. Would you be able to send pictures of your remote controls. I would like to see if the alarm is aftermarket or from the factory.

SOURCE: Dead battery or alternator?

I would have them both checked.
The battery for a weak or dead cell, not holding a charge.
The alternator for not charging.

SOURCE: replaced the battery and still won't start.

Its likely having problems because of how cold it is. A block heater is beneficial during these times. I recommend getting some starter fluid. Have someone spray it into the intake while you try to start the vehicle. This should get your engine back up and running, if not you may have water in your fuel from the cold weather. You can also try disconnecting your fuel supply lines from the cylinders and trying to crank the car. Once an observer sees fuel flowing in steady spurts reconnect the lines and try starting it. Good luck!

SOURCE: I have a 2000 dodge

The 2000 Dodge Intrepid is equipped with an alarm system that is triggered when unauthorized entry is attempted. In some situations, such as having the Intrepid valet parked or when it is being serviced by a mechanic, the alarm system needs to be disarmed so it doesn't go off. Disarming the alarm will prevent it from being activated until it is armed again.
Difficulty: Moderate Instructions

  1. 1 Insert the key into the ignition.
  2. 2 Turn the ignition switch to "ON." Do not start the engine.
  3. 3 Press and hold the valet/override button within five seconds of turning the ignition on. The valet button is located beneath the steering column.
  4. 4 Release the valet/override button after the security indicator light turns off.
  5. 5 Turn the ignition switch off.

have to do it in this order

Cant get the security alarm to disable 98 durango

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt. green/orange '-', Located at a the
black plug in the drivers kick panel.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

If you want to use the alarm again all you do is remove the spliced wire
un hook your battery let it sit over night and hook it back up

Does your Durango have trailer wiring installed, and if so, was it factory installed or installed aftermarket? If installed aftermarket, there's a really good chance your wiring issues are due to incorrect connectors being used to tap in to the factory wiring which has allowed water and other elements to corrode the wiring, causing an intermittent connection.

Alarm

Mine has done this and i as well do not have a working remote. To disengage it just put the key in the driver door lock and turn for 2-3 seconds and it will disengage. i didn't even know mine had an alarm until coming out of work one night and it went off and i could not get it to turn off unless i went to "unlock" the door and hold it there for a few seconds.

Dodge Durango Automatic Door Lock problems

if you have a factory alarm, or an after market alarm, this will click in sometimes if there is a problem with the alarm and cause the locks to click open and closed... you are better off just disconnecting the alarm sometimes tho this will disable the power locks, so try taking it to a show that does nothing but alarms and such, and have them disconect the door lock feature on the alarm that way you can still use the power door locks... hope this helps you out....
