Try a 10w 40 weight.
If you live is a hotter climate use a 20 w 50.
The old addage about "once you use synthetic oil you have to for the life of the car" isn't true.
You just can't mix the two types of oil.
Good luck,Gary

Congradulations on your purchase!

From pages 5-15 and 5-16 of the 2006 Pontiac Torrent owner's manual:

Above -20 degee F (-29 degree C) use SAE 5W-30 multiweight oil that meets GM Standard GM6094M. At or below -20 degee F (-29 degree C) use 5W-30 synthetic oil or SAE 0W-30.

You can use regular or synthetic oil. The weight oil recommended is on the oil cap. Should be 5W-30 or 5W-20.

How to remove starter from 06 pontiac torrent v6

They pull off just like any other vehicle, unless you live in an area where they use salt. Brake and suspension parts on these rust and sieze quickly. Soak with penetrating oil and keep tapping around perimiter. I do this for a living, and I've had Torrent drums take me hours to break loose

06 PONTIAC TORRENT LOCKS AND UNLOCKS AND FLIPS FROM PARK TO REVERSE WHEN PUT INTO PARK

the two problems are not associated ,the lock problem is caused by a problem in the door itself and sometimes removing the door panel and giving a good oil with a proper oil can with engine oil in it will lubricate a sticky connection but the drive cable problem iam not sure of and without a good look i defy anyone to know whats wrong but i do suspect the lock mechanism where you have to put your foot on the brake to move it and this is defective in some way best advise i can offer is to ask a local mechanic to have a llok for you

10 days ago parked our Torrent and went on vacation. When we returned and drove it for the first time the A/C won't work. Light illuminates but clutch isn't engagind. Car has 65,000 miles.

It sounds like it is time to service your A/C. Go to your local part store and purchase a R-134a with compressor oil with A/C attachment, connect to car while running with A/C on max, you should feel the air began to get cold.

Light coming on and dont know what it means

hi jeff
this sounds like it is the service light is on, what happens is, manufacturers give you a certain amount of miles before the next service, and what this is telling you is that it is due for the next one, or it is overdue its regular service interval, hence the wrench sign/oil light, its not your low on oil it need changing...hope this helps please vote thanks
