1993 Trooper 3.2L DOHC. Will start after sitting for an Hr or so. Will run for max. 7 min at idle. When engine starts to die sounds and feels like an old chevy with the choke stuck. Carb cleaner will keep it running. Can rev it to any RPM when running. Changed the fuel filter and throttle position sensor a few days ago but didn't fix the problem. Is there a cold start circuit on these engines or is it all computer controlled through the injectors? Also where is the fuel pressure regulator located?

When this stall or fails to start occurs have a pressure gage hooked up to the fuel injection pressure test port (top of engine in the pipe that supplies the fuel to injectors) and see if you are losing fuel pressure.

I had the same issue on my 99 Trooper.

It would usually start when completely cold, but idle around 2k RPM.
It would drive fine. But if I shut it down, ran into a store, and came back out, it would start but immediately idle.
Had to ride the gas a little to get it into gear.
The Check Engine light has been going on and off for 6 months or so.

I took this to my local trusted repair shop (no Isuzu dealers within 200 miles).
The diagnosed the light, and found that the Intake Gaskets were bad or leaking.
The idling problem was related to the car not being able to control the amount of air coming in.

They replaced the Intake gaskets by the next day, and I haven't had a problem since. And no more check engine light, which has been on half a year.

Here's some details from my bill:
(1) Intake Gasket set $107.95
Misc materials $21.00
2.1 hours of Labor

The total cost to me was $345.00, and I definately don't feel gipped.

SOURCE: my 1992 3.2 petrol trooper starts an idles fine

check for spark at the coils under load. May have to change some ignition coils.

check for a vaccuum leak this is where i would start if it rolled into my shop. possibly a PCV valve sticking or a hole in the hose, this hose should run from the valve cover, or crank case and then to the intake, or carb.

Start great runs 10 min. Dies will not start again

It sounds like a clogged fuel filter. Can you tell me about the vehicles history? The more information the better. When was the last tune-up. Were there any resent repairs performed? Have you done any tests? Like a fuel line pressure test? anything small that you may have noticed while looking over the engine and/or the rest of the car? You would need to figure out if you are dealing with a fuel problem or ignition problem to proceed.
Checking the fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs when it will not start is a good place to begin.
Could be a relay or a long list of other things.

In park the engine dies; only will run if given gas

It sounds like there is a problem with the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Its job is to open and let air into the manifold when the throttle is closed at idle. If it does not open, the engine dies at idle. The IAC is mounted on the throttle body. Possibly the valve is clogged or stuck, in which case it could be ok again if it is removed and cleaned. Or it is broken, and needs to be replaced. Or, there is a problem with its electrical connection, that needs to be traced. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions.

Lost power to engine

Check make sure all plugs are firing. Sounds like what my 93 Rodeo was doing-Idled okay but very rough when in gear. Turns out only 5 out of 6 plugs were firing due to a defective ignition module- 100 bucks later it works fine.

Have a code p0401 how do u fix it , I know it has something to do with the egr system but I,m not sure where its located on my trooper, engine size is 3.5 v6

I have a 2000 Isuzu Trooper that had a PO401 code that would reset and then 2 miles later the light was on again - I found if you remove the EGR valve and start the engine that the engine should idle rough - If it doesnt and you have vacumn at the intake port spray carb cleaner down the port slowly and see how long it takes for the engine to run rough - Keep spraying till the engine dies and spray some more down the passage and let the engine set for 5 minutes and then restart the engine - it will run rough at first but clear out - you should be able to feel the engine RPM change when you put your finger over the intake vaccumn port for the egr - If not then repeat the cleaning method again - If you do feel the rpm change then put the egr valve back on and clear the code and run your drive cycle to see if it is fixed.

check injectors for leakage when engine off-will have to install fuel press gauge run engine and check press ,turn off engine and whatch gauge -see how long it takes for press to drop,will cause hardstart hot engine-but should start better cold
