What kind of fluid does a 5 speed transmission take in a 1994 jeep wrangler

Transmission (standard):
- 80 weight gear oil but most recomend Redline MT 90 to protect the interals better. 75W90 is listed by some but the 80W is just cheaper to find with no ill effects.
AX-5 = 3.3 quarts
AX-15 = 3.25 quarts
BA-10/5 = 2.45 quarts

Manual transmission grinds/crackles in 5th gear

The syncronizers and blocker ring are damaged some stores like auto zone have a super synthetic gear lube I had this problem in my 95 wrangler and the problem went away. Its going to be hard to find tranny parts for that car I just put a new tranny in from the junk yard with 70k miles for $200 its in perfect operating condition.

Hard to get into reverse

try shifting in to first and then reverse. reverse might be worn out. you can have that gear replaced without replacing the whole transmission.

2000 jeep wrangler are sythetic lubes used in axils and trans

Hello grega1967, your Jeep Wrangler came from the factory with gear oil in the axles and manual transmission, but the transfer case uses transmission fluid. It is a NP231 and your axles are Dana 30 in the front and Dana 35 in the rear. They should have a 4.10 gear ratio due to you having a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder.

I hope this helps,

No hi gears making jumped chain noise/ 90 somethin wrangler 5 spd

If the chain in the transfer case broke, they don't fall off, you would know. It would make the noise all the time. The noise your hearing is most likley from the transmission. If you have the 2.5L engine you have an ax5 transmission, the 4.0L came with an ax15. Both transmissions work basicly the same. Gears 1-2 share a shift fork, so do 3-4. I would guess that you have'nt got to 5th gear. There is most likley a problem with the shift fork or the gear synchronizer. You cant be sure till you open it up. The hardest part about working on transmissions is getting over the fear of working on transmissions. I have been fixing cars for about twelve year now and still get a kick out of good mechanics who are afraid of transmissions. If your a farly handy person, its not that hard to take the top off and look. Buy a shop manual and remove the shift lever and the cover under it. The shift forks will come out with the cover, and the rings that they attach to in the transmission are the synchronizer's. If you get that far you'll figure out whats wrong. Bad synchronizer's mean the tranny's coming out. Hope this helps.

5th. Gear

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.
