Where exactly do I locate my transmission plug? I'm use to a dip stick

I just bought this 4Runner and I'm use to doing a routine fluid check, but there is no dip stick for the transmission fluid level. The previous owner did not have the owner's manual so I'm hoping that you could help.

Thanks,

Doreen

No leaking, but was concerned about it's level and thought that I would flush and change the fluid. Is the dealer my only option, or can they scan it at an oil/filter change shop? Is the transmission the only one they have to scan for the level? I had no idea about the scan tool and now I know why I couldn't find the dip stick. Thanks, Doreen

Like many new cars there is no dip stick, the fluid level can only be checked at the dealer with a scan tool to verify trans fluid temp before checking the level, does it leak?

Have the trans flushed, almost any shop can do it. Unless it has over 60,000 miles then a new filter is in order, the dealer is the best bet there, if the the trans is overfilled it can damage it and cost big bucks to fix,

How do i add transmission oil?

If it an automatic, the transmission fluid is poured down the transmission dip stick tube. If it is a manual transmission, there is an inspection plug on the side of the transmission. The fluid level is normally added to the top of the inspection plug hole.

Either way, you should get a repair manual from an autoparts store and read up the routine maintenance which will cover fluid checking.

Need to know how to add the transmission fluid

Manual transmission is easy. There is a fill plug on the left axle flange and a drain plug on the bottom (special bit required).

The automatic must be filled while running so it really isn't a DIY.

I found the transmission fill cap on my friend's 1998 Chevy Malibu, but where is the dip stick to check the fluid level located?

There is no dip stick. There is a 7/16 check plug just under the passenger side axle. The transmission must be warm and the engine idling in park to check. This tough to do without a lift.Fluid will drip out of hole when full.

Transmission warning light coming on,possible problems are low oil pressure or no oil pressure how do i check which one it is and fix it? Thankyou

If you have an Automatic transmission. Lift the hood. Locate the Transmission dip stick. Start the engine and let the engine warm up some. then check the fliud level on the dip stick. On a Manual Transmission, locate the transmission under the vehicle and the fill plug (upper) and drain plug (lower) on the transmission. Remove the fill plug (upper) and see if fluid runs out. If no fluid runs out, add recommeded transission fluid until the fluid starts running out, the replace fill plug..

Dear Sir, I have a 2001 C-70 convertable and it shifts hard. I want to check the transmission fluid and possible add some if needed but I don't know what type of fluid to put in or where to put it.I don't...

Access to the transmission dip stick is not easy. It is hidden deep under tube and wiring beneath the air intake tube near the battery, it has a yellow top labelled 'Trans' and has a clip that secures the top in place. Check the fluid level when the engine is running and the transmission is in 'park'. If low find some suitable hose to locate it into the dip stick tube and then fit a funnel in the end of this 'extension'. The fluid specified is AW5, Volvo part number 1161540-8, do not use anything else as some fluids do not mix well. Add fluid about a pint a time and check the level each time.

How do I check the transmission fluid in my 2001 cadillac catera

There is no dipstick on the 01 Catera or any Catera for that matter (97 to 01) also same transmission used on 3 series BMWs.

I have 2 - 2001 Cateras....no....dip...stick.

It's a sealed transmission. There are fluid drain plugs, one at side of the tranny and one at the bottom. Jack the car up from the front on a level surface. Place a hose to a funnel and remove the top filler access plug (the side one). Insert the hose here and fill the funnel until fluid leaks out the side hole (make sure you have a catch pan). Then drop the car and let the excess fluid level out from the fill hole. Raise the car again and wipe away the excess fluid and re-install the filler plug.

I do not have a dip stick but i believe that my transmission fluid is low... I am not sure how to check and or change my fluid?

It has to be checked and pumped in from the uppermost plug in the bottom of transmission pan when hot and running.
