Hello, I replaced the battery two weeks ago on my 1997 Nissan Maxima, but, 'Im having a problem that the car won't start unless I shake the stirring- wheel, maybe the size of the battery is wrong, or there is a loose wireon the car, would you please tell me what's the right size, AMP's and Votls of battery for this car.
1997 Nissan Maxima, sport ed.
Thanks,
Ana
There is a solenoid switch in or near the shift selector.with the key in the on position press the brake and listen for a click sound near the shift selector.if your car doesnt start while in park jiggle the shift selector while in park ,simultaneously try starting it.if that dont work ,keep your foot on the brake ingnition in the on position, move shift selector to "n" or neutral position ,then try starting it.see if that works for you.
Sounds as if you need the electrical portion of the ignition switch. The contacts inside are most likely worn out.

My 97 maxima is having the same problem. The car won't start, the battery pedal is hard to depress. I can't get the transmission out of park to neutral. I took it to Boulder Nissan, they told me it was the battery and couldn't find anything wrong. I had to have it towed on Saturday and after the truck dropped the car, the car started right up for the tech. Is there a Park/Neutral position switch in the automatic like on the 5 speed?
