Due to the amount of miles on it I would check the cat and the muffler to see if the exhaust is plugging up. It sounds like the engine is flooding and that is why you are seeing the black smoke when you rev it up. I would also check the ETC switch (it looks like a temp. sw) it sends a signal to the computer as to the outside temp and the amount of fuel need to fire the engine on start up until the idle air control kicks out.

Its most likely the coils and spark plugs, sometimes caused by oil leaking from the valve cover gasket. The coils deteriorate over time from engine heat and need to be replaced at 90-100k
Local garages don't have the Jaguar diagnostics terminal and are unable to do more than find basic error codes with a reader. Its important to get this fixed because it's causing damage to your caltalytic converters. They are expensive.

The P0302 could be several things including but not limited to the following. Engine mechanical fault, a wiring problem, Could be an Ignition or fuel system problem, Could be a bad injector or bad ECT (Engine Coolant Sensor) or MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) or a problem with the ECM (Engine Control module)

its more than likely its your timing, check to see if your crank shaft TDC marks align correctly, I also had this issue and it was the woodruff key in the crankshaft rod broke which throughs your timing off. my key hole was in really bad shape so i J B welded it which worked for a little while

take off your idle air control motor and clean it with carb cleaner sounds like clogged and check your idle screw on the throttle body where wire from pedal connects to throttle body make sure it is not got something making it stick or push down cable and make sure the throttle body not dirtyl spray carb cleaner in it sometimes when dirty let in excess air and causes extra gas be used and high idle try these see if fixes it

Your fuel filter may be blocking up; therefore, the delay for gas to reach adequate pressure for proper vapourization especially when cold. Try changing it. This will more than likely solve the problem. Good luck!
