There is a red wire close to the battery in the front. It's not connected to anything. Apply positive voltage and that will run your pump for testing purposes.
2.8 were nkow for computer problems in there early days. Start with a compression check. fuel supply, then I would loo into compter or crank sensor, more likely the computer if it runs at all But you have some testing before you spend any money
i had the same issue and i had 4 injectors that were bad(shorted). i replaced all 6 with rebult ones($400) and its starts right up and been runnin fine for a year now..
running the fault codes at an auto spares shop will give you the codes that are causing the problem
if you run low on fuel it could cause a pump problem but as you drove it home after the problem , I doubt i f it is the pump
If it sat for 3 years the fuel may be in pretty tough shape. If he gasoline smells like a can of old varnish or turpentine then it may have gummed up either the fuel pump, injectors or both. I would start by testing the fuel pressure with a gauge first to see if it is actually pumping enough fuel to run the engine. If the fuel smells bad or your pump isn't working you may need to have the fuel tank removed and cleaned and the fuel lines flushed to get all the old gunky fuel out of them. Also check to be sure you actually have spark at the plugs so you'll know if the ignition system is still working.
My 89 olds cutlass did the same thing....Shop fixed her, they replaced the knock sensor....I also had the fuel filter replaced, they sold me a can of MG injector cleaner too..Out on the highway the service engine light would come on and she would cut out under a load....Then she would crank but not start ( she would start eventually).....Runs great now....bill was $250
It doesn't have a crank sensor on this engine.
