First check and make sure your gas cap is tight, if this does not resolve the problem read below.A vacuum hose has become disconnected, more than likely due to having your air filter replaced. The VSC and Check engine light typically don't come on until after 150-200 miles after the vacuum hose was pulled out The fix: on the right-hand-side of the engine compartment behind the big plastic housing that holds the air filter you will find a black rubber hose that is not connected to anything. Squeeze the finger clamp on the hose and slide the hose back onto the half inch nipple on the back of the air filter's plastic housing In order for the VSC and Check engine light to be turned off, you will need to open the fuse box, right-side of the engine compartment, and pull the 20 amp EFI fuse for 10 seconds. This will reset the system. The fuse location is marked on the lid of the fuse box, also I believe the EFI fuse is the only 20 amp fuse.(and after you're sure nothing is really wrong with your car), try resetting the "maintenance required" display by setting first your ODO display to the ODO setting. Turn off your engine. While pressing and holding down the ODO button, turn your key to the ON position. The display will do this weird blinking action then it'll go back the ODO reading. No more "maintenance required" display.

THANK YOU so much! This has been an issue for 3 years now. My mechanic stated the my wife must had left the gas cap off and simply reset the system, only for it to come back on within a week - "150-200 miles". You were spot on with the disconnected tube, the fuse and odo button. Again, thanks for your help

My husband got oil and filter change on our 2002 Toyota Highlander at Greese Monkey (more like monkeying around in my engine). 500 mi. later the check engine and VSC light came on. After searching a few sites, found this page. Checked the gas cap and after searching for 10 minutes, I found a loose hose in the back of the engine! Reconnected it, pulled the fuse, reset the lights. I hope that solves the problem. Thanks!!!

Disabling the light doesn't fix the problem, you should have this diagnosed by connecting a diagnostic code reader that can communicate with the traction control system, then go from there.

2006 Highlander - Check engine light and VSC light on. What does this mean?

Many possibles, but first check gas cap for torn gasket or just being loose. The VSC light is related to emissions issue and can be leaking vac hose, bad purge valve and other such.

2005 Toyota Highlander check engine, track off and vsc light on, what is the problem

there are literally hundreds of codes that would turn on the check engine light. the track off and vsc lights come on together, indicating a problem with the traction control system. again, many different items will turn these lights on. the only way to narrow it down is to hook it up to an OBD-II diagnostic tool and find out all the codes that are listed. if you don't have one, take it to a shop
