yes, the heater core is leaking coolent and when the heat is turned on , the evaporated coolent is what is steaming your windshield.
Replace the heater core to solve this problem.

plugged heater core would be my suspect.

It is much more likely you are low on coolant or you have an air bubble trapped in the cooling system. You should bleed the cooling system to get any trapped air out and make sure it is full of coolant.

There is no separate sensor. The airbag module has an inertia sensor that determines if the airbag is deployed. The module is in the center of the dash area, mounted to the floor. You'll have to look behind the heater core box to see it.

take the 2 heater hoses at the firewall and connect them together. you just need to make a LOOP that will leave the heater "out of the loop" either buy a length of heater hose or get a "splice connector' so you can connect them together.
