1991 nissan mHello, I have a 1991 Nissan Maxima, one day I feel a "thump" as a came to a stop. From there my car wont shift out of 2nd gear. Amoco said that I need to replace the ******.Other shops say that it maybe a computer issue. I had a dianogstic check and the guy said that the computer didnt get any fault codes, I dont have the "check engine" light on. I am just baffled.axima transmission problems

Try to reset the computer by taking the battery cables off and let it set for about 3 or4 min..while you have BOTH cables off touch them to each other .MAKE SURE HAVE BOTH Cables OFF because if you dont it can blow up your battery!!!!!!! then if that dont work go down the road till you get to about 18 or 20 mph cut off just the engine just one click the cut it back on DONT TURN IT TOO MUCH AND LOCK Nthe steering wheel just ooff then on that sometimes sets the trans computer and selanoids good luck

My 1991 nissan maxima drives for about 2 minutes it shifts and has plenty of torque. then it will not move in any gear forward or reverse. If you wait a while it will do the same thing it will go forward...

Sorry, no solution. I have the exact same problem and it started about the time you posted your problem. If anyone offers a suggestion, please let me know too. thx.

It sounds like you are starting to develop a serious issue with the inner workings of your transmission, possibly with the torque converter. I'm afraid the only solution to this issue is to have a mechanic look at it, as you might be forced to rebuilt the transmission, or get a used replacement. Unfortunetly they are almost impossible to service yourself, so I would search for someone who can give an assessment and quote for repair, preferably someone who specializes
