When you turn the key to the on position (do not try to start), does the check engine light come on for a couple of seconds and then go out?

  • Anonymous Oct 17, 2011

Yes the check engine light comes on it only does it when car is in drive

First, check for fuel pressure. there should be a bleeder valve on the fuel rail. use safety glasses and a rag and carefully depress the valve with the ignition (engine NOT running) you should get a decent amount of fuel spray. If no fuel pressure, it's probably the fuel pump or relay. If you DO have pressure, then check for spark. If there is no spark, it's probably the coil/coilpack.

It has fuel pressure and I just replaced ignition coil and igniter where is the fuel relay and coil pack located at so it wouldn't be the distributor I really need to find the problem

If it has fuel pressure, then the fuel relay is fine. If you replaced the coil, you SHOULD have spark, but double-check. there could be other reasons for no spark. If spark is good in all 4/6 cylinders, check to see if your fuel injectors are spraying. This should be done very carefully for obvious reasons. If there's fuel and spark, but no fire, check compression, maybe your valve timing is way off but that's not likely.

Just had timing belt and new water pump installed do u think timing belt jumped timing the reason y it turn over but want crank

  • Anonymous Oct 16, 2011

It's possible. Take the spark plugs out and use a pencil or something to stick in the #1 spark plug hole (don't let it fall in) and turn the engine over by hand. When the #1 piston is all the way up, you have found Top Dead Center. Make sure your timing marks on the crank pulley or harmonic balancer are correct, and pull the timing cover to see if the timing gear is still in the correct position. Usually, though if your valve timing is off, you will get pre-ignition pops coming from the intake.

Will the distributor stop it from turning over...what would u suggest me to do to resolving the problem really want it to crank it just isn't firing to turn over to crank any suggestions I placed it on a machine it isn't tell me the problem

  • Anonymous Oct 16, 2011

The distributor could cause the problem, but you have to test for spark. either pull one of the plugs or use an extra plug and try having someone try to start the car with the spark plug in one of the wires and the threaded part of the plug touching a metal ground. use rubber-handled pliers to hold the plug so you dont get shocked

I need to have someone check all the spark plugs it can cause the car to not crank or just replace all spark plugs to see if thats the problem before I go farther where is the distributor located

"I need to have someone check all the spark plugs it can cause the car to not crank or just replace all spark plugs to see if thats the problem before I go farther where is the distributor located"

You installed a coil and igniter and you don't know where the distributor is?

Replaced the fuel pump on 97 dodge mini caravan now motor wont crank like the battery is dead. tried jumping it - nothing. All lights work bright! What did I do wrong?

I would check the starter for voltage first - there is a starter relay that is grounded by the PCM. If the ASD relay is faulty the pcm won't have power. You should have battery power to the starter and power on the solenoid when you turn the key to start.

ENGINE COULD HAVE THROWED ROD BEARING.REMOVE SPARK PLUGS TO KILL COMPRESSION WHILE YOU TURN ENGINE OVER.IF ENGINE STILL WONT TURN EASILY VALVES LASH ADJUSTMENT COULD BE TIGHT MAKING HARD FOR ENGINE TO CRANK.

My 97 jimmy will crank but won't turn over. Is it the starter and if so, where do I find it so I can replace it.

If it cranks, but won't start (which is what it sounds like you're saying) the starter is NOT the problem. Check ignition and fuel.

Have 97 acura won't stay charge changed battery

the battery wont stay charged? if youre putting in a fully charged battery and your car runs, but then the battery slowly dies, the problem will be your alternator. the alternator is what maintains a car batteries charge. try replacing the alternator. hope this helps.
