Is there a squealing noise like the pulley may have locked up? Make sure you don't have wiring getting hot.Check all areas near the exhaust and at the firewall area where the EGR piping comes off the exhaust.
Make sure nothing is laying against the exhaust or catalytic converter. don-ohio
no squealing noises
wiring an fuses was replaced by ford in august
will check the egr
it was also suggested that i have my ac clutch looked at as well
...........
test drove car around the corner.. kept it under 45mph .. while idle little smoke took it home an parked it, smoke visible then dissipates .
under the hood it appears to be coming from the front center
this engine is a bit different than the previous taurus owned before
im just being cautious this time cause the last one i had a 1999 wagon
an in 2006 the engine blew up on me on my way to work --
Okay, you don't have a belt burning, but that IS the area where underneath is the hot exhaust pipe. So you have something burning on that pipe, maybe? You gotta look and see, maybe even use a mirror and flashlight. don-ohio
Ummmm....did you mean the front center of the engine or front center of vehicle? I know the engine is turned crossways. don-ohio
yep, front - light white smoke comes from around the side near the belt plus the odor is stronger in that area .... similar to a tires spinning on asphalt smell
Well,if it's not squealing, it's probably not a pulley resisting a belt.I'm still voting that wiring or rubber of some kind is hitting an exhaust pipe area or manifold. I hope you can find it before it leaves you with a tow truck bill.
I'd make sure and keep a small fire ext6inguisher in the car if you continue to drive it. don-ohio
finally had the chance to take a closer look at my mothers taurus .. got to look under the car and took some pics ... there is oil every where underneath,
i normally do the oil change in both my sis and her car an do visual inspection while changing it .... since i been tied up have not done much ..
will take it to a local shop soon .. going back to the local ford shop wont be a option since the insist there is nothing really wrong the engine
Okay,so I got your message in my e-mail, but I don't see that message here. I imagine that the oil underneath is somehow getting onto the exhaust or into a really hot area and the oil is vaporizing into white mist.
UNTIL you fix this leaking, change to a FULL synthetic engine oil(Pennzoil Platinum or Castrol Edge is good. to reduce the chance of a fire, and keep an extinguisher(which all cars should have)handy.
My son owned an older Taurus SHO with a special Mitsubishi engine,I think it was, and it developed BAD leaking from the valve covers which pooled around the spark plugs which were sunken in wells. Bad problem and not real easy to fix,but it must be fixed. (:^) don-ohio
Also,BEFORE you do the oil change, add a bottle of quality(Bars Leaks or Prestone)ENGINE OIL leak sealer to it to soften up the seals. Drive it at least a hundred miles before changing the oil. (:^)don-ohio
Okay...good to hear.....I hope he locates the leak. don-ohio (:^)

i got a better look at my mothers car .. all of the oil is leaking out underneath just not on the pavement. i got a guy to come out to take a look ...we had no idea its that bad ..but manageable
taking it to his shop this week, he is going to pressure wash all of the oil off the check to see how bad an where the leak or leaks come from. - test drive then make the repairs
we should have a pretty good estimate once he is done
checked to see if power steering pump is leaking and no leaks
