Hey Phil,
I own a 98 silverado and just had to drop the pan this weekend. The first thing you will need to do is diconnect the battery, un-bolt the starter, ****** strut arms, fly wheel cover and un-bolt all the oil pan bolts. (I also had to remove the oil filter and adapter cause there was one oil pan bolt I could not get to.) The next step is to pull both motor mount bolts and raise the motor up with a cherry picker. I slipped two 2x4 blocks under the motor to rest on the motor mounts.

I hope this was helpful and you were able to get your oil pan off. I know its alot to do as the MFG was not thinking when they built them or somthing.

Chris

How do i change my 2000 4wd silverado Z71 TRANMISSION FILTER

Not too hard. Drop the pan and remove the old filter and bushing. Install new filter with new bushing and put pan back on. Fill with the correct amount of fluid. Let run until up to operating temperature and re-check the fluid level.

Where's the oil pump located?

Unless its a dry sump oil system which I would be very suprised if it was then its not in the oil pan. Oil pump is located behind the harmonic balancer and is driven by the crankshaft

Check oil level light on 1999HD Z71 chevy pickup How do you reset it ? It is full of Oil.

There is a sensor in the side of the oil pan that senses the oil level. if you do any offroading a piece of debris could have pulled the wire loose. there is no way to reset the warning.

My oil pressure gauge keeps going up and down. What can I do to fix this?

drop the oil pan and check the baffle in the pan. It may have come loose. If not remove the suction screen filter. It may be clogged. If not your oil pump is probably bad

1995 GMC Sierra z71 oil pressure dropped- need advice on this

The oil pump is in the oil pan and needs to be dropped and being a 4WD you also need to drop the front axle pumpkin to remove the oil pan and replace all the gasket needed. Start with the easy and replace the oil pressure sending unit, it's on the back of the engine to the passenger side of the distributor. You can go to Auto Zone and pick up a new Oil sending unit, just make sure your get the right one, "Sending Unit" Looks the same are the oil pressure sensor but the unit reads the pressure, the other just signal a light to go on and off. It's an easy fix like replacing a spark plug.
