2001 GMC Yukon - Clicking noise from dash/steering column are. Starts clicking at 10mph and gets worse the faster you go. Touching the shift lever at all changes the click frequency or stops it completely (not SHIFTING it, just touching it within it's normal wiggle room). The shifter isn't loose, steering is tight, it's like something is touching it and clicking. Speedometer cable perhaps???

I was having a clicking noise from a actuator under the dash of my car, it was a blend actuator.. Years ago they used cable then vacuum hose and now a lot of vehicle us actuators (motor driven gate) to open and close the vents, A/C and heater ducts. I do not know for sure that is your problem but when mine went bad I would get a clicking noise sometimes it click for a few seconds after I turned the car off. Just a thought.

SOURCE: won't start unless I wiggle shift lever on the column

There is a neutral safety switch on the transmission. You may need to change this.

Starts but wont shift into drive no headlights no heater blower no turn signals

You been under the dash? In the steering column maybe?

Most vehicles won't shift out of park unless the brake pedal is pressed. That activates the brake switch and unlocks the transmission shift lever. Funny, that's under the dash too! Look for a dislodged connector on the steering column, one on the brake switch and hopefully you will find one or more connector issues. The heater blower is the odd one.

Tow/haul not working on gmc yukon 2001

The wires are probably broken. They follow the shifter down into the steering column. After many years of shifting the wires break. You can find the wires inside the rubber piece that surrounds the gear shifter. They're orange. You can splice them and put them back in.

The parking lights on our 2001 GMC Yukon XL stay on after turning the vehicle off. This drains the battery down to prevent starting again. What is wrong?

Hi, there is a park relay in middle of the interior relay box under the dash to the left of the steering column. This is shown on page 6-61 of your owner's manual (http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/gmc/2001-GMC-Yukon-Denali.pdf)
With the battery connected, pull out the relay and push it back in. If it clicks when you do this, the headlight switch is bad. If it doesn't click, the relay is bad. Try swapping the relay with another similar relay, such as the horn or A/C relay. If that solves the problem you need a relay. If not, you need a switch. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

How to put into 4x4 hi ?

If its a 4WD there is either a push button on the dash left side of steering colomn, its marked 4hi. If manual shifter in on floor center console. Pull back on lever to second notch marker 4hi. If you are in 4lo now and can't get out. first put tranny shifter in neutral while engine running, then shift transfer case into neutral (manual push forward), push button hold 4hi and 4lo at the same time til "N" green light comes on. Then shift either into 4hi.

Have a 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager Horn goes off at times on its own and steering feels funny and making noise like a clicking noise think may have heard clicking noise for awhile just didn’t know where it...

Your steering column is worn out inside... I had a ford truck that had a similar problem except that the cruise stopped working and the horn stopped working ... some of these parts can't be fixed.. they need to be replaced.....the bushings (spacers) inbetween all the moving parts get worn down and stuff starts touching other stuff and nothing seems to make any sense....

How do you remove factory stereo amplifier on 2001 Yukon XL

There is an outer trim that circumferences the Dash and radio panels. This trim is a snap in. I pulled mine out by hand. After pulling the trim loose I had to lower the steering column all the way and put the car in drive to easily remove the loosened trim.

Headlights on 2001 yukon xl will turn off, then back on, when tilting steering wheel. One time, headlights turned off when clicking off the brights (the steering column again)

The tilt mechanism in your steering column is loose. This is a common problem but not an easy fix, you will need to disable and remove the air bag, remove the steering wheel and all of the parts in the steering couimn down to the base and tighten the screws. Best to Loctite them in so it doesnt happen again.
Do not attemt this if you are not a qualified tech, Goog Luck.
