There should be a fuel pressure port on the fuel rail for installation of a fuel pressure gauge. It will look like a valve stem for putting air in a tire. Attach the gauge to this port and start vehicle and monitor preassure
First check the injectors are pulsing, probe with a led light, test the spark at the spark plug, if all ok check the fuel pressure and the flow. If the pressure is low check the fuel regulator is not at fault , if it is leaking the fuel will go back to the tank. then block off the return hose to see if pump has reserve pressure . don't let the pressure go to high or the regulator may be damaged.
Id start by looking on the INTAKE manifold for 4 fuel injectors. They are connected by a commone pipe or tube called a fuel rail. Its typically located at one end or the other of this fuel rail. Hope this helps.
That is what you have to determine. Do you have fuel pressure? Hopefully the fuel filter hasn't been on since 2000. If it starts and you can drive it and it runs okey, you have eliminated spark, for the most part. What kind of voltage,do you get across the battery terminals, when running. The fuel pump could be bound mechanically. Have you checked for stored codes? Your best bet ,is to have the entire vehicle scanned with a professional scanner and get all issues resolved at once.
If the pump is running but not putting out any fuel the strainer in the tank could be clogged causing it not to pick up fuel. Also check the fuel pressure regulator and make sure it is working correctly.
