GMC 2000 sierra pick up 1500 sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over. Battery sounds good so I guess battery and alternator are ok. For several years fuel gauge doesn't work and didn't replace it because I was told it's in the tank and it would be about $300 or so to put new one in. My son had truck and it may or may not have run out of gas, now won't start. Can it be the fuel filter, fuel pump? Garage can't take it for 2 days they're backed up, so if maybe we can figure it out we can fix it.

It sure could be. But, first...by "won't turn over" you do mean it cranks at normal speed but won't start?
A simple test of the fuel pump is to stand by tank and listen as someone turns key to on. When first turned to on, your pump will activate for 2 or 3 seconds, pressurizing the fuel system, and then shut off if the engine computer doesn't get a cranking signal. Do you hear it come on? If not, then something's not turning your pump on. If you can hear it buzz on briefly, then maybe it's your filter. Another test: Spray a little starting fluid into your intake manifold (remove the big hose going into intake manifold) while someone tries starting it.If it doesn't fire and try to stay running, then it's probably an ignition problem. But if it does fire off, then you know it's a fuel problem-likely your pump or filter. good luck.

Thanks. I didn't hear that so we figured it must be something with fuel pump, and even the guy at the garage said so. Turns out it was a broken wire to the fuel pump. Luckily, it was an easy fix.

SOURCE: My gas gausge doesnt work in my 89 gmc sierra. How

If all your other gauges work, more than likely you have a bad sending unit in the gas tank or bad ground to the sending unit.

measure battery voltage while engine running good is 13V to 14V then over charging is 17V to 18V DC

I have a 1989 GMC Sierra that won't start. It makes a clicking sound when key is turned. Is it the starter? and what does the starter look like?

well the first thing to do is check the voltage at battery, if battery is bad it will make a clicking sound when trying to start vehicle. the voltage at battery should be at least 12.6 volts all things off. with it running at battery should be at least 14.2-14.7 if alternator is ok! if all checks out to be ok, then its either a bad solinoid on starter or the starter itself. good-day ! any auto store will check the voltage for free. just tell them you want to check battery and alt, output.

I have a 1992 gmc serria 1500. Some times it does not start. if i wait awhile and go back to it then it will start up right away. when it does not start the power turns on and does not even try to turn...

Assuming you've got a clean and tight connection to the battery, there's a good possibility that the starter is bad. A bad starter will occasionally work when cold but once it heats up, it requires more power to get it to engage. If when it's hot, everything else is working, ie headlights bright, accessories like power windows work, then it would certainly sound like a starter problem. Most with these symptoms end up changing out batteries, alternators, only to find out that a few days later, the problem returns and you've already spent a few hundred dollars. If you like, you can take the truck to 1 of the auto parts chains that offers free electrical diagnostic tests. This would confirm your battery and alternator are fine prior to making any major repairs.

Charged the battery on my 2000 gmc 1500 4.3 v6 but when i went to start my truck nothing happend. NO lights NO radio NO nothing what could it be?

Check your battery terminals for starters. Most likely you have a ground that is off. if the terminals are good then follow the ground wire from the battery to where it is attached to the engine and make sure you have a good connection there. That's where i would start. good luck

I just replaced the battery in my 2000 gmc seirra. The truck cranks right up and will run fine for a minute or two. Then my battery acks like it is going to die, but if I shift it into park everything goes...

Did you make she that the battery has the right cold cranking amps, or the alternator? some times on an alternator the selfegnighter might have gone bad. Also sounds like there might be a wiring or fuel injection problem. Is there a check engine light on? Start simple, put some sea foam in the gas tank (you can get sea foam at auto zone for 10.00) that might cure the rough idle.

Engine turns over but won't

What you should do is load test your battery and have and starter draw test on the starting system.Make sure it isn`t drawing to much amperage and putting to much of a load on your battery.Good luck.

2000 5.3L gmc sierra will not start

The battery could be your only issue here.Your engine management system will not work well under about ten volts. You battery may have low reserve. Try a new battery as it sounds like you will need one anyway.

2003 GMC Pickup died while driving on highway.

Sounds like your battery is shorted out, you need to replace the battery. If it is shorted, it will not start because the computer is not getting the right voltage.
