I have changed the thermostat and I replaced the main top radiator hose with the cap on it and it is still over heating. What could cause this to still be over heating.

On the radiator cap there is a small hose that goes to the reservoir. Ocationally it gets clogged not permitting the built-up pressure to release. Disconnect this small hose and try blowing into it, you should be able the hear the bubbles in the reservoir. If you cannot blow into it or hear the bubbles, apply air pressure or water pressure with a garden hose. This should eliminate one probable a most missed problems for the overheating. If overheating continues, the culprit may be the waterpump or the thermostat.

If you look at the picture.
Notice where the radiator cap is, follow that hose to the left and where it meets the engine is where your thermostat will be.
It will be located behind, and about in between the alternator and A/C pump.
The cooling system has to be bleed of air.To do this locate the bleeder on the coolant inlet on engine. Remove the bleeder and the radiator cap, fill with coolant until there are no more air bubbles coming out of bleeder. Top off resivor close bleeder replace cap. Start and let it get to normal operating temp, If all is good now you are finished. If it still overheats let it cool off until there is no pressure on upper hose .Carefully remove cap and repeat bleeding process
When you fill the radiator, did you make sure the car heater was set to Full Hot? If not, there could be an airlock in the water system. This can give the symptoms you describe.
Never use a used radiator... check electric cooling fan, and air must be purged out of the radiator / cooling system after refilling it, this can be a little difficult. are you sure that it is not leaking coolant from somewhere else, which would cause the overheating.?
Ihave a 2000 Dodge Durango i have put a new radiator and the gaskets came back good um i replaced the coolen fan also the thermostate and tested it it it came back good when i run it its fine but when i am in line its hot when i drive it cools down........
Follow your upper radiator hose from the radiator to the top of your engine, there where it clamps on is the thermostat housing, remove hose and two or three small bolt's that hold thermostat housing under that is where the thermostat is at. Remmeber that the spring side of the thermostat is what goes into the engine side, facing down.
you got more water than coolant.water pump drive belt slipping radiator core blocked cylinder block core blocked. or grille restricted.a bad radiator pressure cap. if all is good you might have head gasket leak.
make sure engine is cool then drain coolant by opening the drain plug at bottom of radiator. remove cap from radiator so coolant will continue to drain and when coolant is down enough to pull off upper radiator hose at intake then close drain, then remove two bolts at coolant housing and remove thermostate. clean gasket material from intake and housing and replace with new gasket and thermostate tighten bolts install hose fill rad with coolant water mix 50/50 and run engine with heat on floor until gets hot and you see coolant flowing in rad, install cap
