Hi,
Failure of the Neutral Switch and the Catalytic Converter can cause the check engine light to illuminate. Loose Gas cap can also be a reason.
Its better for you to have your dealer check it so that they could diagnose it properly.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
Dennis
Hi,
Your engine is managed by a computer, the ECU. It sends and receives many signals. If it senses from these that something is wrong, that light will illuminate.
In the ECU then is stored an error code, like "P1300" or whatever which will tell the mechanic where the fault is. Many of these codes do not mean you have to stop driving immediately, but others indicate something serious.
You can't really tell what the fault error is without a small scope which is made for that.
Dennis is right in that a very common cause is a loose or lost gas tank cap, or one one which the rubber seal is worn out.
Hope this helps
