How do I turn off the 2006 chevy silverado check engine light. It had a bad 02 sensor and I am replacing it today. I need to get the truck inspected today also so I need to know how to shut it off MYSELF

Autoparts stores will not do it any more. Ive already tried. I used to do it all the time with vehicles at autozone and others, but they said they legally can not any more. Check for yourself. How do I do it myself.

Simply disconnect your battery, turn on the headlight switch for about five to ten minutes, and re-connect the battery. This is pretty simple, but will likely result in you losing your radio presets and perhaps some other small things like that. The code (i.e. CEL / SES light) will usually go away after a certain number of driving cycles, perhaps a few days. You can choose to wait it out or follow one of these methods. if the problem is fixed ! good-day !

Testimonial: "Thank you, this helped the 1st time. The light came on again later and I tired this method again but it did not work the second time."

Thanks Carl. I'm getting tires put on this truck right now. When I'm done, I'll try what youve said.

Go to any auto parts store, except Napa, and they will hook up a computer scanner and can reset that light for you for free.

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2011

Well then try and disconnect the battery for 2-3 minutes. And see if it is still stored. If it is then you are SOL. You will have to break down and spend $30 for a cheap scanner at Advance auto or walmart. This isn't brain surgery, or rocket science.

01 chevy Silverado 2500 misfires multiple cylinders replace 02 sensor map sensor fuel injector cleaned maf sensor it is throwing a code for knock senor 2 circuit my question is can a knock senor be bad...

No a knock sensor can not make a misfire. Check the coils, plugs and fuel pressure .The random misfires are cause the knock sensor to throw the code.

My 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 L engine surges +/- 200 rpm between 30-59 mph in final drive gear...in lower gears runs fine. No check engine light or computer code generated until recently which showed...

a bank 1 or a bank 2 generally means an 02 sensors bad. or you may simply have a faulty gas cap. i would try the gas cap 1st,make sure it's tight, the engine running for a few minutes, then cut engine off. then open gas cap,do you hear pressure [air] releasing from the fuel tank? ok if not that, then if bank 2 is really bad, your check engine light would be on. but if the idle control sensor is bad,no light would be on at all. and it[engine] would idle up and down.or would'nt idle at all,or would idle up and down, just like what you've described. good luck and thank you for choosing fixya.com and please let me know if i'ved assisted you!

The engine light stays on, it has an 02 sensor. It may need a new cadillac converter and cv joint.

check engine light on when tested it says bad o2 sensor did you replace 02 sensor it takes driveing it so many miles before light will go off give it couple days you dont need cadillac converter check engine light will go off cv joint they click as you turn dont let a mechanic sell you something you dont need its very rare for cadillac converters to go bad its common for o2 sensors to go bad like yours did but when 02 sensors are replaced it takes driveing it for awhile before it resets itself you also have more then one 02 sensor was then wrong one replaced they screw into your exaust manifold

I have a 96 k1500 chevy truck and have 4 codes that pop up on the check engine light randomly. Codes are ckp A signal intermitent, cmp out of range, idle contol rpm to high, O2 bank 1 sensor 1 insuficent...

O2 sensor cross talk bank to bank irregular, change 02 sensor(s).

Sounds like Idle air control sensor bad, All of your codes interact, I would start with 02 sensor.

I would locate a Tech II and run a diagnosis, eliminate guess work.

2006 5.3ltr chevy silverado z71 p0455 andp0449

These codes are for the evaporative emission system. The 455 is the vent solenoid. The 455 is a large leak in the evap.system.The vent solenoid I would replace because they go bad and will not work because they are under the vehicle in the rear of the truck. There is a bulletin for these and the vent valve is installed in another spot. The number for the bulletin is 02-06-04-037E.You should also look for a broken or loose hose or pipe that might have came off.Specially if you ran over something. If none found it could just be the vent solenoid stuck in the venting position.Good luck.

The check engine light has come on for our 2006 Chevy Silverado Z71. Checked battery connection. No other problems noticeable.

Go to your local autozone where they can hook up their scan tool for no cost to you. Be sure to write down the codes and definitions of the codes and repost if you don't know where to go from there. Also, I don't recommend replacing parts just because the guy at autozone tells you that's what you need (ie, they will tell you to replace oxygen sensors if an o2 sensor code comes up).

Check engine light and cruise lights came on simultaneously.

Sound like the O2's heater circuit may not be working, that will set a code. I am not a big fan of univeral O2's, too many problems with bad connections and the check engine lights coming back on. You may need to use a OEM type sensor to keep the light off.

2000 chevy silverado z71 check engine light will not go off.

you have to know what the code is that your truck putting out your truck has 4 O2 sensors. the trucks computer is smart and the code will tell you witch one is bad but if you replace just one the next one on the same exhaust pipe will probley go bad so its safe to replace all four. the draw back to replaceing all of them is thay cost about 80 bucks for one ACDelco O2 sensor. It has to be done before it will pass Emissions. not a hard part to change about a 7/8 open end wrench will take it off. have fun.
