The sensor in the differential is for the ABS. Did you replace the sensor for the speedometer in the end of the transmission?
And is the check engine light on ?

run the fault codes
the rpms change indicates a ratio change up then back down indicating a TR or VSS problem

Check the brake light switch. This will dissable both...just an idea..
