I am unable to figure out why the hydraulic plow will not work after I have installed the motor. Not sure , but I think I have a short in the wiring.
Why noty try directly wiring that motor to a 12 volts power source diectly to make suer the motor is OK.. You should do this with an inline fuse to protect the battery and/or wiring. That would be a quick test to verify that the motor is OK.. I assume that you wired the motor and can control it via a switch/relay set up... If that's true then perhaps your switch isn't activating the relay that provides power to the motor. If you had a short, then it should cause the circuit protection component ( fuse or circuit breaker ) to open and disable power to the motor.. The first thing I would check is that that motor works and if it does.. then verify the wiring to it switches 12VDC to the motor ( might be a good idea to check that circuit with the motor unplugged) Some ideas to knock around.. hope that gets you going...
After you check out the motor follow this path.
You should have either a + or - wire going to the switch. From the switch you should have a wire going to the + or - connector [depending on which way you wired the switch] on the relay coil.
This does not have to be a heavy wire, 16 ga is more than enough.
Most relays have a diagram on the case. The coil is usually pictured with a squiggly line through it and the two numbers located at each end correspond to the coil posts you need to hook to.Look for polarity marks, if you don't see any the coil proably isn't polarity sensitive.
Coonect the wire from the switch to one of the coil posts [depending on how you wired you switch] and either a constantly hot 12v wire to the other coil post or a wire that runs to ground [one advantage to wiring the switch - is that it can be easier to polish a bare spot under the dash and using a self drilling screw fasten a ground wire, than finding a hot wire to tie into.]
Wire the coil [to polarity marks if shown] and flip the switch, if you don't hear the relay click then reverse the wires, if you still don't hear it click, replace the relay.Good rule of thumb is to obtain a relay with at least 20% more amp capacity than what the motor pulls.
There are probably 3 other posts in the diagram all numbered.
In the diagram one shows a line from the number only post to a post with a number and letter[that's normally closed] the other shows no line to it[that's normally open].
Connect the motor to the normally open post.and connect a constantly hot 12 volt 12 ga wire[Or what is recommended by the lift maker] to the post that is numbered only..
Do it one step at a time and you'll know your wiring is correct and the thing should be working.
