Tow motors model No. YT40. Hyster 40. Serial no. 35843. Wisconsin Air cooled 4 cylinder, Model no. VF4. Serial no. 2425924. I would like to change point type ignition to electronic ignition, put on a GM alternator, and change Instumentation to 12 volt, like gauges, lights and all switches. But not sure if i need to change starter? Not sure if wisconsin makes 12 volt starter for it? Also still looking for a simple 12 volt wiring diagram, so i can make sure to do it right.
To change the points to electronic you will need to get the manufacturer of the distributor and contact them for a compatible electronic kit to replace the points or replacement distributor
to fit an alternator , get one with an internal voltage regulator ( talk with an auto electrician for the best unit --it is not necessary to go big amperage units so one about 35-60 amps will suffice and cheaper as well)
wiring will be the same as will fuses (neither volt sensitive)
gauges will have to be changed to 12 volt units
bulbs changed from 6 volt to 12 bulbs and switches will be the same as they are no volt sensitive
basically the same circuit can be used and the only place to be careful is the alternator wire to the battery and the charge light or volt gauge ( auto electrician can advise here )
starter motor will have to be changed to 12 volts and you will again have to get the replacement unit from an auto electrician as the bendix pitch , movement and mounting neck will be critical
wisconsin did not make electrical components but used off the shelf companies such as delco remy, lucas , bosch, ac etc for the accessories to the engine
it is an interesting project so collect as much information from auto electricians and web sites to help you
SOURCE: heater only blows warm air.
The hoses from your heater core should be very hot to the touch. Check the hoses going to the core from the water pump. It should be very hot. The return hose should also be very hot. Now check the hoses going to the core. If they are not the same temp, then your heater control valve is not working correctly or the vacuum is not working. At any rate, locate the vacuum line going to the heater valve. Remove the silver bar on the valve from the plastic plunger arm. You will have heat all the time now if it was only a vacuum problem. You can fix it later when it's warmer out. BTW a 200* thermostat will make your heater even hotter.

You might wanna check and make sure the heater switch didn't go bad. It could even be the blower motor itself.
SOURCE: 90 suburban 4 wire alt. first owner used it to tow
look in a junk yard and find one like your and look at how its wired or go to a alt shop and ask them for a diagram.
SOURCE: wiring tow bar electrics
Just tap off of the rear lights , You can do most of the wiring on one side and only have to tap the indicator off the other side.
shouldn't need a relay unless you have lots n lots of lights on the tailer.
Hope this helps.
