My 1998 Explorer (165,000 mi.)makes a loud rubbing noise when taking off turning or backing up turning. Clutch plates in rear carrier have been replaced (no change in noise). Front drive shaft removed

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "rubbing" sound. If it's a squeaking type of rubbing, you are more than likely hearing the bushings. The Ford Explorer is known to have the bushings wear down so much that any torque or twist will make this sound. It'll cost a few hundred to fix, mainly because if you'r going to fix one, you should just fix them all.

My wife's car is making a loud groaning noise in the front end while turning the steering wheel either direction.

If you have strut type suspension it may be the bearing at the top of the strut worn out.

1998 Chrysler Sebring front end squeak

It could be a powersteering leak. Sometimes there is a shaft seal under the steering column inside that needs to be greased because f squeaks. The brake problem is from warped rotors, most likely the front since you feel it in the steering wheel.

1999 ford explorer limited whining noise in front end

Whining noise is probably in one of the pulleys or belts. Probably the power steering. And the popping is probably CV axles.

How do i check if cv joints are worn i have a noise in the front end sounds like a rock in the tread but isnt

If the noise is there when making sharp turns check for torn boots on the cv joints,or evidence of grease around the boot. This will be the bad one. MOST COMMON on the explorer is the hub bearing assy.Where the joint goes into. They make a variety of noises from clicks to growling while driving . Fairly easy to change.
