Re: What would cause vehicle to chug when excelerating as...
Chug as in bogs down? Try a new fuel filter. If that doen't help, check air filter and have the fuel system checked with a pressure gauge for proper pressure.
Sounds like a fuel problem. Have you checked for trouble codes? Engine light ever come on when running?Sounds like a fuel problem. Have you checked for trouble codes? Engine light ever come on when running?

If you have done basic tune up stuff, I would check fuel pressure with gauge installed and running down the highway. Other possibles are bad ignition module, loose wire somewhere in coil circuit, bad fuel pump, filter, many others.
You need to get a scan tool and see what codes it is throwing when the light comes on. This will eliminate the needless replacing of parts by guessing.
EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve may be stopped up with carbons. This would account for some loss of power as well as odor if leaking around intake. If I remember correctly, egr tube originates just above catalytic converter on this model. Condition may be early signs of cat failure ( commonly accompanied by "rotten egg" odor). I recommend having emission system checked by certified tech to avoid uneccessary component replacement.
Sounds like bad fuel, clogged/blocked fuel filter, air filter maint. of the vehicle needed (may need tune up) or internal engine problems. You have to start with the basics. How many miles, how well was the vehicle maintained etc. Cars usually don't just break with no notice.
You should check out www.reliable-store.com they have info on repair, service, wiring diagram, electrical diagram, fuse diagram, torque specs, troubleshooting, PCV, gear box, owner's/service/repair/parts manual, fault codes, error codes, etc everything on all vehicles. must check it out
Rust in ther filter means rust in the tank. There is a primary filter attached to the fuel pump inside the tank. Before you go further, replace that filter & wipe out the inside of the tank as well as you can. Then check operation of pump and how it runs. Good Luck
A GM dealer should be able to reflash the PCM to help alleviate the chugging. To a certain extent,it is normal, and you might want to consider tuneup things like plugs and wires, air and fuel filter, and also have all the engine and transmssion mounts checked for weakness,as weak mounts will magnify these types of problems.
Not so much chug but hesitates
