Read the manual , or if yours is missing:
there are two red plastic levers in the crack where the seat bottom meets the carpeted part. Push one while lifting up on the seat bottom then go round and do the other. Pull the seat bottom fwd and out.
You need a replacement batt that either does NOT VENT , e.g. OPTIMA, or has the connector to vent thru the tube that connects to the top of the battery. MB batteries are highly recommended; you'll save $ in the long run as they last a LONG time.
the seat is mounted to either studs or bolted down, there are two in the front and two in the rear, raise the seat up as high as it goes and disconnect the wiring harness, be carefull not to break the connector, move the seat back and remove the front nuts or bolts on floor, there may be a trim cover over them, repeat for rear, move seat foreward to access rear nuts or bolts (varies by year.)
it is not designed to be removed. It is designed to slide back and forth as needed.

Bench Removal
Remove the center seat(s) if equipped. Refer to the procedure in this section.
Slide the bench seat forward to the center row seating position.
Use a flat-blade screwdriver to remove the cover caps from the front of the rear seat cushion latch cover.
Remove the two rear seat bolts from the front of the rear seat cushion latch cover.
Lift the rear seat cushion floor cover on the back of the rear bench seat and remove the two inboard rear seat bolts and the two outboard rear seat bolts.
Remove the bench seat from the vehicle through the body side door opening.
i have same problem on 1997 s420, don't know why it is happening. but you can replace cigar lighter fuse then replace seat/mirrors/steering wheel fuse and all is well. thnx
2 bolts in the front and two in the rear of each seat, 10 minute job, disconnect wiring under seat, take care not to break the locks on the connectors for the power seats.
remove rear seat, remove round metal cover, disconnect fuel lines and wires from top of fuel pump, jack up rear of car. remove gas tank straps, lower gas tank with a jack, install is reverse.....if you need to just replace the fuel pump you don't have to remove tank you Can access from under rear seat good luck and please rate -jeff
