Regarding the fuse: Often, a missing fuse indicates an option on the car that isn't present or a fuse panel that is used on different models (having fuse slots for items not available on your model). Only the owner's manual or asking the dealer can confirm this.
The problem you describe can be caused by many things. My first impression was misfiring spark plugs. In an electronically controlled ignition, there are many possible causes. Have the spark plugs ever been changed?
Does this misfiring occur when the car is in neutral? If it does, you can check for leaking ignition wires or shorts by opening the hood at night with the car running. In a dark place, look for arcing (little flashes of light) while an assistant slowly raises the engine's RPM by pressing on the accelerator. You should see nothing like that at all. If this is occuring, the ignition wires and plugs need to be replaced.
A dirty MAF sensor can cause poor performance. This is located between the air cleaner and the engine. You may not want to attempt cleaning this yourself so at least make sure your mechanic looks at this.
Have the fuel pressure tested. A dirty fuel filter, bad fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump won't deliver enough fuel under acceleration.
Finally, look for a girl mechanic. I live in a small town and we have a shop owned by a young lady. Ask around.
Good luck from Detroit, MI.
