The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM. These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. There is where the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

if ur key has the security chip in it, it possible that ur ignition switch isnt reading that chip right away. i mean as long as u can get ur car started try and not get too worried about it. it is possible that ur ignition might be goin bad so try to keep an eye on it and if it starts to get worse take it in.

SOURCE: security warning is on and car wont start now
The security light being on is why your vehicle will not start. You need to get the codes to find out what is causing the problem. What you can do is when you try to start it and let go of the key but leave it to the run position the security light will come on and stay on for ten minutes. When it goes off turn the key off and then try to start it.The theft module relearns the key and it should start. Then you can take it to a repair shop and get it fixed. You can call ahead and make sure there is a shop that can diagnose and repair this problem.Hope this helps.Good luck.
