Check engine light

I just turned 38,000 miles on my 2005 Dodge Dakota and the check engine light came on I took it to Autozone and the said the code was P0300, definision: Cylinder misfire detected-Random cyclinders. Explanation The power train control module monitors the crankshaft speed and has detected a misfire condition..

Probable causes
1. ignition system faulty-spark plug (s),ignition wires,coil
2. Vacuum leak
3. injector fault
4. High or low fuel pressure.

I'd like to know where do I start ?

2005 dodge dakota 3.7 readscode P0700 and P0300 and will barely start no power and dies PLEASE HELP ME what is the sensor i need to replace

  • Elad10 Jan 21, 2009

I have had he check engine light on and reads a p300 error.

I reset with scanner and after it completes a run cycle it comes back on. The engine seems to run fine, gas milage no different. I have 30k miles on it and says to replace spark plugs. I am going to do that then see what the light does after a reset. I am not sure where to start either, but figure that plugs is one place since they are recomended to be done now anyways. For such a new truck and low miles I am a bit disapointed in RAM, my first dodge. If it is plugs not too bad, normal maintenance. Will post if it works. ANY sugestions as to what ight be a etter path to correct this?

The truck is 12 years old even with the low miles will possibly need a tune up --air filter- plugs - wires-- injectors may need cleaning or their partial clogging[ possible replacement ] age and environment wear down parts and components not just mileage

Even with low miles, the truck has some years on it. Is the gas old? If the truck seemed to run fine, I would clear the code and see if it came back. Sometimes these things are just a one-off occurrence. If it continues, I would make sure it isn't running on old gas (if the truck has been sitting a while), then check the spark plugs, and go with the usual tune-up items.

I don't know how the above could have any effect on temperature. Is the vehicle full of coolant? In my opinion you have two different issues

I could be wrong but it sounds like you need to put some attention towards the cat and the O2 sensors.

SOURCE: auto question,I have an 96 Dodge Ram w/ 5.2L V8

I would check the injector. Pull the plug and check for corrosion. Use on ohm meter to check the injector. The resistance should be 11 to 15 ohms. Check it against another injector. they should be close. You can also check the injector plug. best to use is a noid light, but you can use the meter. set it to dc volts to check. the numbers should jump everytime it fires. since you got a 300 and 301 misfire it tells me that you have an intermitant misfire in cylinder 1. The other sensors are still good don't replace them. The coil is still good, because when it starts to go, it will have misfires on all cylinders or will not work at all. The crank sensor is the one that detects the misfire, again don't replace it because it's not bad, it's just doing it's job. If the injector and harness check out good then I would start check the cylinder for compression and mechanical problems

SOURCE: How are you... I have just bought a 2006 Dodge

that is the coil on top of #5 spark plug. you can replace the coil or switch it to another cylinder and see if you get a different code. misfire codes are 301-306.

I have a 2001 dodge dakota pick up v-6 I changed spark plugs by accident crossed 2 wires fixed that now all engine lights come on HELP

You triggered computer that a major miss was sensed, so it through engine codes, so go to Autozone and they as a courtesy will check codes and reset or clear them in many cases. Another way to clear is just try driving for about 50 miles, and depending on codes, some will reset, or disconnect battery for a few minutes, some cars will reset, but depends on codes, so try an Autozone store first, they are usally in every city.

I have a recently purchased Dodge Dakota 2005. It's in mint condition...but I bought it and put maybe 300 miles on it since I bought it and now when I start it the engine light is on and it sounds like...

I would get the computer checked for codes as soon as possible.
It could be a vac leak or something else. Extra air entering the intake will make the engine idle fast.

I replaced head gaskets on 2004 dodge dakota. when started it ran rough and lacked acceleration. Code P0300 and o2 sensors showed. replaced all 4 O2 sensors, but still rough idle and code P0300

That's Random or multiple missfire code. Have you checked for proper fuel pressure? Improper fuel pressure will trigger this code if it's too low, thus causing a lean mixture in multiple cylinders.

You have two pumps,I guess you know that ,if you already did one. Did you check fuel pressure at the rail and check out the electronic pressure regulator? What codes are coming up and do they stay set?
