If the engine is a 1.5 then no it cant be done it is a zero tolerance system, if it's a 2.0 then you can install new belt it is not a zero tolerance system

The 2.5 has zero tolerance between piston and values. I can rotate the crank with no problem. I think in is on TDC. If it is 180 degrees out would I be able to rotate the crank?

If there is zero tolerance between valves and pistons ( how did you measure it. (Head has to be on to get a reading) then I would say that there has been valve clash with the piston and the valves are bent. If that is the case then you will be able to turn the crank 360 degrees with little resistance.

this could have happened if the timing belt broke. You are supposed to change the timing belt every 60 to 90 thousand miles.
